Education
I donated these wonderful readers to the kids section of our local library. I am excited to know that children will learn about these historical people.

A good back up for delivering a talk
Concise, rapid reading with salient points. A good back up for delivering a talk. Part of a great series of books that are well presented on their subjects and encourages more reading. When you are involved in many activities as I am, time is limited and the "who Was...." series compacts that shortage of time with available facts. Although I am retired, I am constantly on the go. It is great review of former information read and a prompt reminder when doing public speaking. Prior to this there was "Classics Illustrated" which provided a story in comic form. Happy to see such a great selection of historical subjects and people through this series. Highly recommended reading for others "on the go" with a variety of interests.

Larger font + pictures = Persistence
My child can get overwhelmed with a full page of text. These books have a format that breaks up the sea of letters. She is more easily able to take in the conceptual through the images; which provide a foundation for the words. Thinking with pictures is well waited in these books. We have several in this series.

Must Read!
Excellent Excellent Read! So well written and easy to read! Though labeled in the genre of children’s books; this book is excellent for adults as well, albeit I learned a thing or two.

"James was sick and old. Yet he saw Belle’s suffering and knew he had to help her."
Sojourner Truth, born a slave, called Belle as a child, spent her adult life on a journey to share her Truth, the truth of the world as she knew it, she preached the word of God, but more than that, she championed the cause of the poor, those who were without a voice, she understood the challenges facing those moving into a life of freedom, and she worked to help them enter that new life, and have a successful future. This book does a nice job of explaining how an illiterate woman found herself going on speaking tours, selling her own book, helping others to understand a way of life they'd never lived, with hopes it would in turn inspire them.

Inspiring read for us all!
Sojourner Truth is a great American who was an activist for women, the poor and worked for the rights of freed slaves. Despite being illiterate, she sued for her son's rights and the unfair treatment she endured as a black woman. The character traits we can learn from her are endless.
