Don't expect too much
I prefer this over other brands, because the advertising doesn't over-promise. That may be a small thing, but I think honestly in product descriptions should be encouraged. Another brand I've tried says that the wood will light "on a single match". Frankly, that's exceptionally unlikely in my environment. This particular product is described as "easy to light", which is sort-of believable.Other reviewers have said that this wood will light with a fire-steel, but that doesn't match my experience. Again, that might be because I'm using it in a cold, damp environment.FWIW my approach to using fatwood for camp fires is to put a pea-sized piece of petroleum-based firelighter under a pyramid of 6-7 fatwood sticks, and then "real" fuel wood directly on top of that. I've found this combination will start a fire even in very damp, cold conditions. The petroleum firelighter really will light with a single match, and a pea-sized piece is enough to light the fatwood sticks. Six fatwood sticks will start a fire with quartered pieces of dry firewood. One reviewer suggested shaving the sticks into slivers to make tinder; I haven't tried that, but I suspect that such a tinder probably would light with a fire-steel, at least so long as it isn't raining. In any case, you shouldn't expect too much from products like this. There's no doubt in my mind that fatwood is a better way to start a camp fire than a big stack of hexamine blocks -- it's less toxic, and smells much nicer. However, it won't make fire-starting effortless.

Very efficient
I have used these before; a box lasts ages. The two I have just purchased will probably light my log-burner for the next couple or three winters. To be honest, they are cut a bit on the thick side so for general fire-lighting I split them lengthways into two or even three so they last a lot longer and are easier to fire up. They don't smell unpleasant (a whiff of pine resin, if anything) and I reckon they are good value.

After a bit of trial and error....
Thought I would try these as an alternative to free newspapers as supply is sometimes sporadic and also produces a lot of ash.Had some trial and error with this product as started off by building a full fire and trying to light the sticks. This was the preferred option, but this did not work as the flame would not travel up the stick very well. Then tried building up the fire by lighting 1 stick and then using another 2 or 3 and then build up with standard kindling and small logs. This worked however using a traditional yellow flame lighter is very time consuming as the sticks do not light as easily as some state. Therefore I bought a blue flame (torch style) lighter which made lighting a breeze and now I am very happy.3 or 4 sticks lights a good size fire and I have not had a single fire go out therefore a 10lb box will last about half a winter.

Excellent quality - brilliant for camp fires
High resin content means this is excellent for starting a camp fire. I used a good camping knife to whittle some larger shavings then scraped the kindling stick with the back of the blade to create some finer scrapings/dust. It caught with a ferro rod and quickly gave a perfect starter to light the rest of the fire. 10lbs is a lot- I used under a quarter of one stick and there are dozens and dozens of them in a packet so I now have many years’ supply!

Genuine Fatwood and a lot of it
Bought this for my wild camping gear it’s always useful to have a few pieces of fat wood to help start a campfire. The pieces are quite thick which is good I actually ended up batoning them down a bit to get them burning, probably a bit to thick out of the box to get going with a ferro rod, if you have a lighter no problem.I will probably buy a smaller box next time as there was way more than I expected in the 10lb box. The picture is after I’ve took about 15-20 pieces out.

Life saver.
This fat wood is amazing. I scraped a little off the wood in a little pile and a flint spark made it light with little effort. One bit of wood will last a long time and could literally save your life. Very highly recommended bit of kit to add to your pack. Very fast delivery and well pleased with this. Thank you.

Smells great, is lit instantly with a flame.
Excellent value for the money. Comes highly flammable and is lit instantly with a flame. There is so much pine resin in the wood it has the appearance and feel of plastic. There is a very strong and pleasant smell of pine
