Your guide to vitamins, minerals, and more
Review for Amazon by Jerry Woolpy of Fortify your Life: your guide to vitamins, minerals, and more by Tieraona Low DogIf a physician tells you that you do not need to take vitamins, minerals, or any other supplements, please consider that nutrition has not been included in medical education until very recently and even now only for a very small part of the curriculum. It is rarely if ever included in the state licensing exams. In fact, you may know more about it than the doctor. Tieraona Low Dog comes to the rescue. Pregnancy, infancy, youth, adolescence, middle age, elderly all have special needs as do people who are eating mostly processed food, not enough fruits and vegetables, not range fed meats, vegetarians and vegans, diabetics, and lots of others. In fact, given that much of our food is grown on depleted soil almost everyone could benefit from supplements. Chapter by chapter, for vitamins, minerals, and other common supplements she summarizes “What it does”, “Food Sources or What to eat”, Signs of Deficiency”, “Risk for Deficiency”, “RDA”, “Supplement Considerations” and she includes drug interactions in detail for many common prescriptions. Tieraona Low Dog has documented the book with the latest studies including those in progress and she discusses many of the uncertainties. This is a book to read, to consult, and to have as a second opinion for any advice you may receive. Conscientious persons who take charge of their own health will find it an essential guide.

Science and common sense from an MD
Dr. Low Dog is an MD, trained in scientific medicine as well as herbal medicines. She has successfully set the standard for integrative medicine by avoiding the hype of alleged herbal cure-alls while steering clear of the usual pharmaceutical fixes. Her understanding of disease processes and their impact on the body's homeostasis demonstrates a balanced approach of science and low key interventions. Highly recommend.

Love this woman-excellent book
I follow this author's pod casts and have read other things she's written. I listen to her spot on NPR and always find them excellent and informative. I like her a lot! This particular book is very reader friendly. Well organized, comprehensive, written in language most of us can grasp and gives just the right of information for each item. I purchased one for me and another for a like minded friend. She also gives this book rave reviews. I would strongly recommend it.

Outstanding book
An outstanding book, with much-needed information, written by a well-respected physician. My only "con" is that the print seems a bit dim in the hardcover edition, especially in the charts. (I don't usually have trouble reading print.) So I ordered the Kindle edition also, because the print is darker there and font can be enlarged.

Good Information, Well Written
This book contained some good information. It is well written and well researched. I believe for a lot of people wanting to educate themselves about supplements, this is a pretty good book to start with. It is by no means a completely comprehensive treatise on vitamins, minerals and other supplements and treatments, but of good value nonetheless. This book, though good, is not a stand-alone book and other sources should be read and researched along with it.

Good guide.
Very good data on the supplements she covers. Well written and understandable with reasons why things work or don't work for various conditions. The only reason I didn't give it a 5 was because the coverage did not meet my expectations in the areas of inflammation and osteoarthritis. I am old.

Vitamin -Supplement Sanity
Looking for 'real' information regarding nutrition and healing ? It's contained in 'Fortify Your Life'. This is mysecond book authored by Dr. Low Dog. I've followed Dr. Andrew Weil's Integrative Medical approach forseveral years. Quite a while ago, Dr. Weil introduced Dr. Low Dog to USA viewers. I believe Dr. Low Dogis Andrew Weil's own physician.

One of the best guides to supplements!
This book is an easy to read guide thoroughly explaining the nutrients we must get from our food or through supplementation. Not feeling well? Spend a little time evaluating your diet and finding what supplements you might need first, before going to a doctor. You will not only save a lot of money, but you will save your life by not taking unnecessary medicine with unnecessary side effects!
