I gave this as gift; however, it has a medium tone and if I recall correctly it was about 1-2mm thick

Can these be turned in to hand held marching band cymbols?

Not sure but you would need some kind of. Uffer pad between the cymbal and the handle to work. Better to just but ones designed for that
