Basically lipstick on a pig
This instrument does not play well. It has poor slotting and poor dynamics. Many times, I’d play it just for no sound to come out, or the sound is too wispy and airy. I thought this was an issue on my end, but I found out that this horn leaks. The looks are decent and all, but this really has no right being as expensive as it is - it’s basically a wall hanger at this point. The slides were tough, the valves were bad, the felts were too small. Nothing here is worth using as an instrument. The mouthpiece and stand are decent, but the instrument is poor. I would not recommend this for a beginner - it’s like a pen with no ink.

Decent cheap horn from China that looks cool.
This horn just arrived today and I have put in an hour or so on it so I have a few comments that may be helpful. 1) The horn looks neat. 2) The horn plays fairly well across the range of the instrument. 3) The valves, after a bit of cleaning and oiling seem to play alright although the valve buttons sit a bit too low inside the upper valve casing for my taste. 4) The third valve slide, which is used periodically for fine-tuning notes, is EXTREMELY stiff and although I have been oiling it up it looks to be something which is going to be a long-term issue until it loosens up a bit (hopefully it will). 5) There are numerous small oversight issues which it would not have taken more than a cursory final inspection to catch. To give you an example - the pin which is screwed in to keep the third valve slide from shooting off was improperly cut and had a jagged and overextended point rather than a rounded end and would have scratched the tubing on the third valve slide if I had not laboriously filed it down. The finishing is also far from perfect with flaws all over the horn especially at the joints. 6) The mouthpiece is ok for a beginner, especially a child but probably not much good for an adult. I have already put another mouthpiece in the case as seen in the photo.. 7) The stand will keep your trumpet from falling over but will probably damage the bell as the legs lie flat on the floor. I will probably add extra padding to the fat base of the stand to keep the trumpet bell a bit higher up. 7) The case is simple but adequate. 8) In short an ok horn which is worth the small cost. Not a professional horn by any stretch but still better than a plastic trumpet.

Best little trumpet no ones knows about
I write this review as a woman that has played trumpet for over 43 years. My principle horn is a King 601. I have never found one that was more open or easy to play. This Rowell horn is simply fun. My husband asked me what I wanted for Christmas and I decided a new horn. This Rowell has every design feature of horns costing $3,000. So I took a chance. The horn is gorgeous. I had to clean, oil and wash the valves to get them to play just right. But boy does this baby sound good. Well worth every penny. If you can't go many places, this is a good time to take back up an old hobby. I think diamonds are nice, but you can't play jazz on them, and they don't shine like my new horn does.
