Beautiful in the most broken way
I woke up at 3 am to read this and finished it in a day.I laughed so hard I couldn’t drink coffee while reading just in caseAnd I marveled at the bits where I could say hey this is me too. This book makes those of us that are a little broken feel included in the rest of the world. You are weird. You are not alone. You are ok.

Honest critique: If you are interested in laughing so hard you cry and even pee a little, you should read this book.

I’m now referring to my private parts as the Death Star
My husband is still wondering why the hell I started ranting about vagina lasers. 13 yr old overheard said rant and may have peed herself laughing so hard.

Raw and Human and Honest
Broken (in the best possible way) is the third books of essays by blogger Jenny Lawson. It’s a good book. You should like it.Lawson, if you are familiar with her work, writes a lot about her own struggles with mental illness, and this book really centers her experience living with and looking for treatment for her anxiety and depression (and all her other physical maladies as well). She approaches life with humor and appreciates the absurdity of the world, or at least that is her public face. The stories are raw and human and honest, blending the serious with the levity she brings. Her books have been successful, and rightfully so. Reading her work is enjoyable and it stirs up the emotions. I recommend you pick up a copy.

Laughing aloud
As usual with Jenny Lawson's writing... I am in stitches laughing aloud with this one! I'm only about 30 pages in, but I was reading while at a diner, and I could not stop laughing in that agreeing way we do when someone else is sharing an experience exactly like you & your experiences... I like to think of it as the "ah hah" laugh - meaning I love to know that I am not alone in my quirkiness, and sense of humor. Love, love, love it!

Hilarious & thought provoking
I love Jenny Lawson & was so excited that this book was coming out. I downloaded it & started reading it at work but was laughing so hard I couldn't even pretend to be productive. So I said I was sick & went home so I could read it. Jenny is a great story teller & is so funny! When she writes about her mental illness, it's very personal. You can tell that she's not phoning it in, that those are her genuine thoughts. Keep the books coming, Jenny! We are loving them & rooting for you!

My New Best Friend
So, I first found the Bloggess in the early 2000's and loved her tone and style and dry edge. But as happens, we drifted apart. This book, her third, seemed like a great chance to get back in touch. Well, busy, busy, busy.I understand that authors create and cultivate a "persona" and that celebrity is a mask. I don't actually know Jenny Lawson. But more than any other cultural/humor writer I can think of her work feels absolutely authentic and genuine. (I sometimes get that vibe from Paula Poundstone.) That authenticity adds extra punch and appeal to everything she writes, and as silly as it sounds, I'm happier when I'm reading her essays.Don't be fooled or misled, because I don't want you to be disappointed when you read this book. The book is both hilariously funny, in parts, and intensely personal about being broken, (in parts). Perhaps the Lawson genius is that she often is able to combine those two aspects of her writing in a single paragraph and even a single proudly ungrammatical sentence. This is the sort of book that you read through once in its entirety, taking the rough with the smooth. Then when you need a little Jenny you can skim to your favorite parts and re-appreciate her comedic timing and wordplay and unique deadpan-manic humor. Jenny Lawson, my BFF.(Please note that I received a free advance ecopy of this book without a review requirement, or any influence regarding review content should I choose to post a review. Apart from that I have no connection at all to either the author or the publisher of this book.)

Best book I have read in a long time
It is incredibly difficult to have a frank, open conversation about mental illness and inject humor. She does this masterfully.I am a large, beardy, 48 year old man. It is wonderful to find you are not alone in hiding from unknown visitors to your house.

Laugh out loud funny
Jenny Lawson cracks me up, she had the best writing and has amazing storytelling capabilities. I wake up my husband from laughing so hard at her books. This one did delve a little deeper in her depression and anxiety issues, but I was able to relate to her experiences - mental health is something that should be discussed more often and Jenny opens up about it in this book and makes you feel like you're not alone.

Not impressed with ‘Gross package and handling’
Grossed out! Book arrived with sticky/greasy large finger prints and streaks all over the cover. Don’t even want to read it now and NOT going to the busy post office during Covid to make a return. My books are treasures but not this one. No offence to the author.
