Great for jewelry making

These are better than I thought they would be, they can take a ton of heat and not lose their color or shine, and ive not had 1 chip or Crack on me yet. I got these to practice my bezel work for when I invest in opals to start a little jewelry business.

I bought these little cabs to make wire weaved rings. They are the perfect size and the colors are good. They are an inexpensive way to learn how to make the rings, and then sell them. Will probably buy again.

The package consists of nicely made cabs that are all of a consistent size and dome height. It's very easy to use these in a project, and they're visually clean. They're great for designer projects where the quality of the stone isn't as important, but appearance is. The selection is great and I've yet to be disappointed with any of the cabs.

When I saw such a low price for 50 cabochons, I was very skeptical! Some are certainly dyed, but they are real gemstones. The shape and polish is excellent on most of them. One or two facets show up on a couple of stones, but for the price, I'm not complaining. Since the backs are polished, I'm guessing they are preformed and then tumble polished. An excellent choice for glue on stones in your jewelry projects.

These are beautiful stones. My issue with them is twofold: 1) Only about half match up to form pairs, and 2) the quality control for measurement is not there. Of the pieces that do not match up, it's not a matter of slight shade or pattern differences, but entirely different hues or sections of rock selected so as to not even look like the same type of stones. For instance, with how common amethyst is compared to other semi-precious stones, how hard is it to pick similar purples? And yet this was one of the fails; one was typical, the other was cut from a banded piece and had a strong chevron of a different hue. As to measurements, quite a few would not fit into their supposedly-matching cup sizes, both by being too small of diameter or more often too wide. And the cabochon heights differed, too, with a couple of them having bloated dome heights compared to the rest. Really, it's a shame, because the stones are lovely, but only half were usable for my jewelry-making purposes (making earring pairs). If one is using these singly and making your own settings, then there shouldn't be issues.
