Sesame Paste - 8oz (Pack of 1)

This arrived on a rainy day, so I did not question the wet spots on the envelope that contained the jar. Once I opened the outer packaging, however, it was clear that the jar was leaking. Leaking to the point that the oil escaping from the paste dissolved the adhesive on the bubble wrap it was wrapped in. The lid was loose. Ever the optimist, I opened the jar thinking that if it had just come open, it might be salvageable. The hardened line of desiccated paste inside the lid indicated that the lid must have been open for quite awhile. Additionally, there was a vertical line of “sediment “ showing through the glass side of the jar, as if the jar had been laying on its side for a long time.I had ordered this hoping to avoid a trip to the nearest Asian market. My mistake. I ended up doing the safe thing and pitching the jar into the garbage. Looks like I’ll be making that trip to the market after all. :(

This is the roasted sesame paste which tastes similar to peanut butter. Very perfect in Chinese cooking.It is assertive and flavorful and is not to be confused with Tahini which is the ground sesame used in Mediterranean Cuisine such as in Hummus. Which is also yummy of course.But, expect this Roasted Sesame Paste to work perfectly in recipes for things such as cold noodle salads. And other Chinese based dishes.

Fabulous. Any fan of Szechwan cold sesame noodles would love this. Its the real deal. Deep nutty flavor. Great texture. It has no bitterness typicaly experienced with tahini because the sesame seeds are roasted before they are ground into this paste.If you like roasted sesame seed oil, you will probably appreciate this.

I only need a teaspoon or so of this (Dan Dan noodles) at a time and this delivers the requisite flavor punch.

The bottle came leaked in the box! Apparently, it was not sealed correctly! I am disappointed that I can’t return!
