I almost thought about taking a star off for ease of use and for beginners, but user error should not be a reason to ding the product. It works good. Really good. Almost too good.I got into magnet fishing this past year. I previously bought a lesser quality magnet that wasn't that durable (I'll withhold their name, as this review isn't about them), so I decided my next one needed to be a considerable upgrade. More pulling power is better, right? Of course it is. So I get the Hercules 2000 lb double sided magnet and I make my first cast with it. I catch a bike and am able to pull it most of the way up to the bridge before having to use my hook to get it up and over the lower support beams. Now I'll admit I knew where the bike was because of the last time I was out and couldn't get the bike free, but it was the first cast with this specific magnet. My next cast I didn't to cast as far as I thought. As I'm pulling it up, I hear a loud clunk. The magnet is now stuck to the side of a steel bridge. It will not move. I tried recovering it with the hook that I used to pull the bike and it did not budge. We tried pulling it sideways, away from the bridge, and neither option worked. I reached out to customer support and not only was their turn around time quick, but they offered to help me out.So there's a lesson to be learned from this: this magnet is not a toy or an entry level piece that may or may not stick to an item. It is solid and very strong. If you're going to use this product, do NOT use this while casting from a steel bridge. There's a very good chance that you may not get your magnet back. Science is your friend. There's a reason why they taught it in grade school and high school. And yes, this is something I should have thought about beforehand (although it's probably easier to type in hindsight.) But once I get my new magnet, I will be back casting again and will report back with what I manage to pull.If you're going to get into the hobby of magnet fishing, Hercules Magnetics is the only place that I would consider. The quality of the magnet appears superior to other magnets and their customer service was great to work with.

I wanted to try magnet fishing but I'm not spending bookoos of money just to try something. I looked over Amazon at some of the cheaper kits but I was skeptical over which reviews were fake and real. So I see this and was willing to give it a shot since it isn't as expensive as the others. I honestly say, this worked. We just pulled a Winchester gun safe door out of the creek and it took hell and back to get the magnet off. The rope snapped trying to get the magnet off. I will say be cautious of the friction because it will cause the rope to rip. Strong magnet. I like that I can attach the eye bolt to the side or the top of the magnet. Doesn't come with a treble or grapple hook to help pull in heavy items.

If you're fishing with this and hit solid metal , hopefully it's not too deep to retrieve hangs on tight.

Woo-hoo, my new magnet has arrived. I'm amazed at how light this magnet is. I'm a small person and 68 years old. I can't handle anything large or heavy and this one is going to be easy to throw. This magnet looks well put together, like it plans on lasting forever. It also came with a very nice 100 ft nylon rope and a pair of gloves. The magnetic surface is large enough to hold more finds than you'll care to pull in. For the quality of this magnet, it's well worth what I paid for it. Can't wait to get to the river and try this baby out. I highly recommend this magnet for the size, weight and quality. I will update this review, after a day of having fun latching onto some good stuff at the river.

If you are reading this go ahead and strap yourself because I am not happy. I have ordered and bought hundreds of items off Amazon, and not once have I had the energy to write a single review. But this product bothered me so much that I am writing my first ever review. I wish I could leave 0 stars for this incredibly misleading product. This magnet costs over $50 and has the magnetic strength of a wet paper bag. You are literally paying $50 for a gold gilded turd. The magnet is simply a gold shiny prop. Included in the box are dollar tree gloves and a cheap carabiner. The rope is nothing special, but you could definitely find better for cheaper.For almost half the price of this product you can get the $33 double sided 1000lb magnet which also comes with a grappling hook and is available on Amazon prime. Do not buy this for beginners, do not buy this at all. Oh and let’s not forget the item cannot be returned. I would rather drink dog water than buy this product or any product from Hercules magnetics.
