I just got this book and am starting to read through it, on page 35. So far i feel that it is going to have a lot of great information i'll need to be prepared for survival situations. One of the good points i noticed when flipping through is there are color pictures of edible plants in the back plus a bunch of helpful information regarding, trapping, first aid, signalling, and a lot of other topics. Once i finish reading it i will update this review further, but from what i've seen so far i would recommend this book. I would also recommend the Gem SAS Survival Guide [Paperback] by John "Lofty" Wiseman to go along with this book. Great to keep in your car or pocket just in case you are out when a situation occurs.

This would have had 5 stars as this manual is absolutely what I was looking for with tons of great information BUT . . . . . . there is a problem with this book as printed. The book I got, (U.S. Army Survival Manual, Dep of the Army, Revised and updated by Colonel Peter T Underwood USMC (Ret) (cameo cover - just like the photo shown) (copyright 2011) --- Here's the issues 1. The CONTENTS PAGE only shows Chapters 1 - 5. There is NO contents page for Chapters 6 - 19 and this is not a torn out page -- it is a printing error because the BACKSIDE of the 1 page contents page IS printed with the List of Appendix A - H. BUT . . there is so MUCH great information in this book and it is like new at a used price that I decided not to return it. Instead, I found an older 2001 edition online and I was able to copy/paste that into a word doc, input page #'s, and print that out in the 6"w x 9"H format of this book. Also the 2001 Edition contains other chapters this one doesn't. So I just printed them out online. Unfortunately that is another 59 pages of printing but it can be cut down to this book format size as that is how I printed it. Really, this is a book every survivalist should have but might also come in VERY handy for the camper or hiker in a jam. Wish it had been complete -- but I'll take it as it is. Just modified it. And learned a lot doing that.
