How do these compare to Faber Castell Polychromos?

They are a different type of pencil. Polychromos are a oil based pencil where Luminance are a wax based pencil. They are wonderful pencils some would say the best in the world. They are excellent to blend with velvet soft to color with and hold a point much better then Prismas. They don't come in as many colors however. It all depends on what you are looking for in a pencil. I love my Luminance pencils, they are like the Rolls Royce of pencils for a reason. They are also the most lightfast pencils in the world.

Caran D'Ache Luminance Colored Pencils are priced at $112.28 for the set of 40 through Amazon. This is the correct pricing for these pencils. This set is also priced in the same ballpark for $110 at dickblick.com (great/quality art supplies store). I saw the listing that you are referring to in your question ($set of 38 for $208.00). Honestly, this looks like a scam. Caran D'Ache doesn't even make a set of 38 in the Luminance and they certainly don't cost over $200 for a set of this quantity. I purchased the set of 40 through Amazon and these Colored pencils are made from the best quality and the colors are beautiful. Hope this helps.

The Caran d'Ache Luminance are a wax based pencils the Pablo is harder and Oil based.

is this color better then prismacolor in its wood and leads?

HI RiSool they are absolutely the best lead and wood you can buy. Sharpen beautifully and never break like Prismacolor. They are cedar casing and a wax based lead, blending is like butter. Pretty much the best color pencils you can buy. Expensive, but so worth it and they have the best light fastness. I really enjoy my 72 set.
