Q: Is the bigger planter big enough for a bonsai tree?

Considering that bonsai trees frequently do not have very big or deep pots when on display, it could be big enough. Half of the bigger planter is enough to hold a plastic circular container with a well-developed 2-foot tall basil bush.

Q: Is this material safe for herbs? Glazed?

I believe it would be safe for herbs even though I had succulent plants in mine

Q: Are these suitable for herbs?

I purchased two sets of this planter. They are beautiful and utilitarian. I see no reason to not use them for herbs, creating an indoor garden or for keeping in a protected area (with a good over-hang) in an outdoor setting. Being ceramic, they would not winter well outdoors.
