Avian Medicine: Principles and Application [ABRIDGED]

This book is very technical and I believe it is actually used as one of the textbooks used at many avian Veterinarian colleges. It a good reference book if you breed or own parrots. When a parrot becomes I'll for whatever reason one has very little time in most cases to get your bird into your avian Veterinarian, if your lucky enough to have one nearby. I hope to use the information I get from this book to do anything possible to stabilize a bird in need of a higher level of care I'm unable to give. Sometimes what you do in the first few hours when you realize a bird is sick or injured can be the difference between life and death.

I'm not a vet, but a bird owner. I bought this to help further my knowledge and care of parrots.Within the first few chapters, it cover the basics of all you need to know about birds. This would have been very helpful when I was first starting out with birds and had to do a month of research to find what is outlined in this book.It gives a general outline to diagnosing bird illnesses and descriptions of medical procedures.I also found the nutrition section of the book interesting.

Well worth every penny I paid for this particular publication involving avian medicine. There have been many advances in medicine to date since 1997, but for general understanding, comparative consultations, and tried and true methodology, this little abridged edition of avian medicine is a nice edition to add to any veterinarian's shelf. I love reading the forward, and acknowledge the individuals whom came together to publish this medical compendium and whom did it to fulfill a need in the profession.

This book was useful for avian health in general, but for issues specific to poultry it was not as helpful.

So much information! A must for an avian enthusiast.
