A new really great paper
First off the question most people ask "Is it the best out there for black & white printing?" I cannot answer that easily but like the other reviewer I also printed on an Epson 3880 and from Photoshop CS6. I do not load profiles but prefer to make small images side by side on the same sheet of paper adjusting the printer settings each time. Maybe not the right way to go but it's the way I prefer fitting 9 images on a sheet if necessary. Usually by 5 or 6 I have what I like then make a larger print. From there small adjustments may be required to get the print to look like I want it.So to Ilford Galerie Prestige Gold Mono Paper. It's expensive compared to many that's the first thing you notice - but is it worth it. Well I would not use it for everyday prints but save it for something special. I have not done side by side tests using the same image and settings so perhaps it's unfair to make judgement - but that's never stopped me. Compared to other black and white prints I have made, on a varity of good papers, I would say this is the best if only for the surface texture. Not silk in the true sense nor glossy but somewhere in between. Images look sharp with an extended tonal range. Both blacks and whites hold up very well with nice tonal gradations. But, you know, so much of this is subjective and assumes we have got our printing equipment/computer monitor set to perfection which I doubt many of us have - even if we try hard to calibrate with Spyders and color profiles. So one printer could get results they like better using a different paper. For me, and in future, I'll use this new Ilford paper for my better fine art images.I just got a message from Ilford that 17" x 22" will be available here in a few months as at the moment 13' x 19" is the largest sheet size available in the USA.ps. Just a little boast Ilford did use one of my black and white images on the front cover of one of their magazine a few years ago. I must have got that one right - but that was in the darkroom days. Remember that far back?

I really don't see what people find so great about this paper and what distinguishes it from coming across as just another glossy print.

It Don't Come Better 'n This!
Ive been a serious photographer and printed all my own stuff,I preferred B&W back in the 70/s, and even back then I ONLY used Ilford's B&W paper and film, they made paper that was numbered for the kind of b&w print you were trying fore. Nonetheless I was very happy get a hold of this paper. It's pretty much a dedicated monochrome paper but the tonal range is great!! Especially if you are using a three or four black/gray inks. It's a very torobust and light to heavy paper, I think 270 or 310, I can't remember but hit has a great feel I'v noticed that sometimes there is color in my prints but not enough tp flaw the print. It's expensive I know, but well worth it Five Stars from Me!!

Excellent paper.
This is my go to paper for my BW photography. It takes me back to my early days and choices I made working in the darkroom. This has great tonality. I'm using it right now with an Epson Stylus Photo rx 2880.

Review
Seldom do I believe the hype of a product... all companies brag about how great their product is... After printing with Gold Mono Silk, I am quite impressed with the quality of the prints. It is unfortunate that I can't show you the results, but with my Epson 2880 the prints are outstanding... all without futzing around the settings.

Darkroom quality - inkjet paper
Only paper to use if you want a print as close a possible to silver gelatin. Great tones and I have people mistake my prints all the time for darkroom ones

Great paper. I don't understand Ilford's apparnet financial woes, but ti doesn't pertain to the quality of their paper.
