The Maple Festival (5) (The Adventures of Sophie Mouse)

I bought the Sophie the Mouse books as a transition from picture books into reading chapter books. They are wonderful!. I am a retired reading teacher and am always looking for quality reading books. There is a picture on every page which kids love! The stories are delightful! They are around third grade reading level and they do have accelerated reading quizzes if your school uses AR. My granddaughter, is 6 years old, and is in first grade. She loves the adventures of Sophie the mouse, her friend Hattie frog, and the snake Owen. She has read six of the books out loud to me and is now starting to read them silently on her own. There are 12 Sophie the Mouse books and more to come!!

My daughter has been eagerly anticipating the arrival of the new fall Sophie Mouse book ever since we discovered the series and blew threw the first several books over the summer. This little book did not disappoint. It's full of everything you'd expect from this series: Darling pictures, a cute, positive story line, good friends, and a cozy autumnal setting. Sophie and her mom work together to make the bakery's booth at the Maple Festival successful, and it's a great learning experience all around. Like the rest of the series, The Maple Festival is a treat, perfect for any 5-9 year old, alone (for reader)s or with a parent. Would make a great fall gift for back-to-school, Halloween, Thanksgiving, or a birthday.

Adorable- innocent and charming. Warm and cozy for Fall. My daughter loves cozy seasonal books, and this fit the bill. Young girls can easily sympathize with the sweet mouse protagonist, drawing the reader in to her simple yet compelling storyline. My daughter really enjoyed this. It is not edge of your seat thrilling, but simple and well-written so the reader is pleased to continue. No talking back to parents, no adolescent dramas- just a simple wholesome life lesson about responsibility and helping others- perfect for a new reader ready for her first chapter book!

We love "The Adventures of Sophie the Mouse" series. My daughter is 5 years old so she is not yet able to read them, but I read a chapter to her each night and she loves the stories. I like that the stories seem timeless and not "trendy." The stories feature good lessons for kids. "The Maple Festival" was a cute story about Sophie helping her mom prepare for the annual maple festival. My daughter enjoyed this book and loves Sophie the Mouse who likes to help in her mom's bakery and loves painting. Cute series and great book for fall.

This series of books is amazing. We are reading them to a 3 & 5 year old at bed time. They are so excited to go to bed because it is story time and they can't wait to find out what happened next. Each book is full of adventures and laughs. There is a lesson to be learned in each story and the kids get the message. It's great. We read the first 2 and then couldn't wait to get all the rest.

These stories are wonderful. My 6 year old daughter loves them and the chapters are a perfect length: short enough to be reasonable for her to read at once and long enough to present the perfect challenge as a piece of reading. Also, because of the episodic nature of the stories, they are a great way to introduce a longer chapter book format for an emerging reader.

Great book for grand-daughter's 4th birthday!
