LITTLE BOOTS - WORKING GIRL (GATEFOLD) - VINYL

The real "1989"
I loved the first two Little Boots albums. I followed Victoria closely on SoundCloud. When the first tracks from this album started to hit, I was not impressed. But, Little Boots has a way of putting it all together on albums in a way that others don't. I held off on buying this, but now that I have it it's getting better with each listen.I was actually working at a college radio station during 1989. When I listen to "1989" by Swift, I don't hear much that resonates with what I did (and still do) listen to. "Working Girl" brings up some deja vu for me. There are threads of 80's music in here that are hard to trace. I'll think about it and add to this review later.

LBFTMFW
Seems like everywhere but the United States seems to get what Little Boots is doing, and that's a waste and a half. Still, this is easily her best album, and the idiosyncratic feminist statements made here are a big part of the draw (not to mention her excellent ear for arrangement and analogue synth work). The visuals for this set have been quite compelling to - a proper video album could really be the next right move!

By far one of the best albums I've bought in a while
By far one of the best albums I've bought in a while! I'm glad I found her a few years ago with remedy to catch this album. More confident and willing to experiment than ever she's come a long way. If you like Madonna, and Blondie. You'll appreciate what she has to offer and then some. I don't like either of those artists myself but I can appreciate them. I'd probably have to state outright that you'll probably either love of hate the album. I could see it hard to fall between.

She Works Hard for the Money...and SHE DELIVERS!!!!
Little Boots (aka Victoria Hesketh) is the female equivalent to Rod Thomas' "Bright Light Bright Light" Her voice is honey sweet and her beats and production are a force to be reckoned with!In Working Girl, her third album, she has a conceived a genius "concept" album. For those not familiar with the concept of a "Concept album" the writer takes a theme and plays on it throughout the album. Little Boots takes Working Girl from an answering machine Intro on a journey of a 'Working Gir'l who 'Gets Things Done' who feels 'No Pressure' because we all know about 'Business Pleasure'! 'Paradise' is close enough that you can 'Taste It'. If you 'Desire' it, then it's always 'Better In The Morning'! You can play 'The Game' and get 'Help Too' all while being a 'Heroine' and a 'Real Girl' at the same time! (disclaimer: the above sentence may not represent the actual meaning of any song, but you can see the concept at work, there!)Little Boots, (or LB, as she is sometimes referred to), has a voice very similar to that of Sarah Cracknell of Saint Etienne, and her music is similar to some of Saint Etienne's more indie dance sounds. However, it must be noted, that while a Saint Etienne Fan will see the similarities, LB has a sound all her own that gives her music a meaning and depth that overrides those similarities and makes her stand out as a force to be reckoned with. She a Unique One Girl Pop Genius. (Seriously, google her one of a kind LED Dress that is programmed to her music and watch a video) There is a level of creativity that astounds the mind and soothes the soul. This album is a slight departure from her last two albums but it's still very electronic and very dance and very luscious, delicious and magical pop. If you are a fan of Saint Etienne or a fan of Electronic. If you like the Pet Shop Boys or Erasure, Miss Kittin, or even Kylie Minogue then you owe it to yourself to buy this album or any album by Little Boots. Every album is a shining pinnacle in the world of pop from Hands to Nocturnes and now Working Girl, Little Boots has established herself as a Picasso of pop and dance and a Mozart of the Indie Music scene! I also highly recommend listening to her mixes on soundcloud or her live DJ sets if you are lucky enough to live in a town she happens to be traveling through and spinning for! LB is brilliant on all levels and any lover of pop and dance will recognize her originality and talent and give her the praise and adoration that I feel she demands!

Pretty good electro-pop! Victoria has a voice that's not unlike Deborah Harry! I liked about a third of the fifteen tracks! Thanx!

Delightful, off-kilter electronic pop
This album gets underway with an amusingly self-referencing answerphone message ('Remedy' re-purposed as background muzak) before the first song kicks in - title track 'Working Girl'. Any concerns that Little Boots had become too arty and no longer interested in pop hooks is put to rest in emphatic style. The bassline has a proper thump, Victoria's vocals sound altogether more determined and the lyrics spell out the overall theme of the album - it's hard for a working girl. Clearly, previous record company issues took a heavy toll.If you favour Little Boots in this breezy, pop-with-a-twist guise then there are several more tracks in the same vein. 'No Pressure' is immediately catchy with another driving bassline, 'Heroine' is like a moody Saint Etienne classic with Rosemary's Baby chills in the outro and 'Get Things Done' locates a lovely 80s power pop vibe.Best of all is the stunning 'Help Too', which slows things down to an electro ballad stomp. It's like a dreamy mix of Twin Peaks chords and the best bits of The Human League thrown together. It also gives Victoria the opportunity to show the more vulnerable side of her voice - she has never sounded better.Second favourite is the thumping 'Paradise', which pulls off that happy/sad 'tears on the dancefloor thing' in much the same vein as 'Strangers' (highlight of previous album 'Nocturnes').Even the quirkier tracks ('Better In The Morning', 'Taste It') are charming. In the fickle world of radio playlists, it's a shame that this album is unlikely to get the kind of attention it deserves. But for lovers of electronic pop, it's another delightful excursion into the world of Little Boots.

Off white vinyl
Arrived solidly packaged and in great condition. The album plays fine (a little crackle here and there but no more than on other new vinyl) but the "white" is more "off white" with a few marks. The volume is quite low but I think it sounds better than the CD - suspect more compression/loudness/whatever is used on the CD.

I like Little Boots
I like Little Boots, so was probably always going to like the CD.It isn't as strong as her first album, but is getting better after several listens.Originally bought it myself as a Christmas present but it didn't arrive and contacted dodax the supplier who sent a replacement out straight away without any fuss, so pleased with both music and service. The 3 stars is for the music. Service was excellent.

She's Still The Boss
She's nailed it again. The perfect pop-sheen of "Hands" bubbles under a darker, edgier vibe that carries logically on from the midnight callings of "Nocturne". A superb and classy continuation of the growth of a criminally undervalued Brit heroine!
