Q: I need to know if this unit includes a calibration certificate?

I did not receive a certificate with my Used - Very Good unit purchased on Nov 13 '19 from Amazon.

Q: can this be used for room temperatures?

it shows the ambient temperature when you turn it on....so if in your pocket it may read higher leave it on a table it will show the room temp when you turn it on.

Q: Does this take the reading at the tip rather than middle of the stem?

It takes the reading at the indentation just a short ways up the tip.

Q: how long is the metal rod part? it looks shorter than the other similar items', from the picture i see.

The metal rod part is 2 3/4”.
