Excellent product for preschoolers and up!!!
I have a son in preschool, and the only thing he was having problems with was his hand strength and writing. I bought this book for him thinking it would be good practice. It's more than that. It contains the alphabet, then different length words ranging in complication, and even sentences! The alphabet part of this, has the little arrows beside the trace-me-lines, so that you do learn the right way. Each letter has it's own page with 1/2 a page dedicated to uppercase and the other 1/2 dedicated to lowercase. It has one line with the tracers and four lines for doing it all yourself. The word pages are divided up by letters. Like apple, alligator, and ant for A, ball, bear and Bobby for B, all the way through Z. The sentence part has the sentence at the top, and room for the person to write it on their own four times below it. These, too are divided up by letters. The one for M is "Mommy monkeys mash Megan's mushrooms.", and Q is "The quiet queen quits quarreling." If teachers wanted to use them a worksheets, they even have a space at the top for the child to write his/her name. This has helped my child a lot. His hand strength has improved and he knows his letters A through D now. Wonderful supplement to education.

Great value! Simple pages.
Great extra practice for little ones trying to have neater handwriting. We have been using this over the summer with our 7 year old that has already learned handwriting in 1st grade. We're using this as extra practice and to try to get his handwriting more consistent and proper. There is a page for each letter upper and lower cases. There are arrows on the letter page showing how to draw the letter properly. There are also extra words and sentences in the back for applied practiceGreat value for the price. I do wish it had numbers in addition to the letters.

Excellent for kindergartener with writing difficulties
After being gently told at our first kindergarten parent-teacher conference that our reads-at-2nd grade child was writing barely at pre-K level, it was suggested that we work at writing and other fine motor skills at home. Along with a prescribed dose of Pick-Up Sticks, Jenga, and Play-Doh (seriously) we needed to practice letters. This book is just the ticket. Not babyish. Lines slightly larger than standard "wide ruled" paper, but not ridiculously so. Good strong top and bottom lines with a colored dotted line in the middle to help guide letter formation. The first section focuses on individual letters. One page per letter, capitals up top, lowercase starting halfway down. Format for this initial section has one letter with arrows, a line of traceables, and plenty of blank lines for practice. Next section is individual words, one page of "a" words, page of "b", etc. Trace, then copy the words. Final section is full sentences, which helps with between-word spacing.Frankly, this book is probably too boring for a young preschooler. There are some colored pictures for each page, but there's no coloring or letter games. However, if you need a book for an older kid to focus on writing skills, and just writing skills, this is perfect.

Great handwriting practice book
My 5-y-o nephew does not enjoy practicing his handwriting, but this book was perfect to help him. Since using it, his handwriting has improved quickly and tremendously. Since he does not enjoy it, I have him do 5 letters at a time, one or two lines of each letter. I then would set a timer and have him "race" the timer! This would get him off the "I don't want to do it" mode and into "I gotta beat the clock" mode. I'd set it for about 2 or 3 minutes if he was doing one line of letters and encourage him the whole way. This turned handwriting practice into a game and it went by quickly instead of him dragging it out. The book has capital and lower case letters, words, and then sentences for your child to practice. My only complaint is some of the fonts are not the best choice - it is confusing, especially for a young child, when a small L looks the same as a capital I. I still recommend this book and the price is very reasonable.

This book is great for homeschool instruction and extra practice for school-aged children!
This book is NOT designed for PreSchool/PreKindergarten aged children (3 to 5 years). There are no written instructions, very few pictures, and it includes big words and sentences (K to 1st reading level). These are to *practice* writing not teach writing, as the back cover states, at the back end of the book (none of which is shown in the book preview). I found it peculiar that the publishers wrote "Preschool & Up" on the cover. However, it DOES make an excellent extra practice book for school-aged children who already know how to write their letters, words, and sentences, but need more practice with each letter to improve their handwriting skills. I hope this helps!

It's good practice for learning to write letters
I'm currently going through this book with my three year old. It's good practice for learning to write letters, but there are a few things I'm not happy with. The letters are in a random order that I haven't figured out yet. At first I thought maybe it was in order of easiest to write, but it's not. So that's odd. Also the activities are quite repetitive. I don't normally have a problem with that, but in particular there are three line tracing activities that are the same on every single capital letter practice page. Exactly the same lines to trace from a picture to the letter it starts with, which changes depending on the letter depicted on the page. I don't know why they want to trace a straight line, a curvy line, and a zig-zag line the same way every time. But my toddler loves doing this. We do it every other day for preschool, and he has learned to write most of his letters this way.
