A classic from just before the turn of the century that only improves with time.
The Mummy is a classic that only improves like fine wine. Having just recently saw this movie at a re-release in theaters back in 2022, I never imagined that a movie that started off as a guilty pleasure would change decades later in my eyes. Now it's an underrated classic that only proves Brandon Fraser should have been the next action star.Seriously, Brandon Fraser as Rick O'Connell is the mix of an Average Joe and a Chad into one. With a rocking bod, good looks, charm, goofiness, and a nerdy personality that reminds me of Bruce Cambell, he's the most relatable action hero since John McClaine in the first Die Hard movie.Alongside Fraser is also Rachel Weisel, who stars as one of the best female characters in Evelyn Carnahan, managing to strike a balance between femininity and being a strong female character in her own right without undermining Rick. Beautiful, intelligent, brave, and able to keep up with Rick as a true partner, Evelyn is the blueprint in how to write a good female character without being a girl boss. But the main attraction towards this film is in its ability to be as practical as possible. Yeah, there are CGI moments that don't hold up very well, but when it's practical and actually in the desert, it gives the film a legit feel of adventure and realism. In fact, the best moments of the film are without the mummy. The action sequences are actually pretty good as well. The DVD comes with bonus features that are worth watching. I won't spoil anything but it is fascinating to see a very different time of how movies were made, especially since I'm from that era.I highly recommend buying yourself a copy of this movie and just enjoying it for what it is. I once viewed it as a guilty pleasure, B-movie. But now, I consider one of the good ones that only improves with time.I'll give "The Mummy" an 8/10 rating.

One of the last great pulp adventure movies
I saw this in theaters when it came out and got it as soon as it came out on DVD.I grew up with Indiana Jones and this, while more campy than the Indiana Jones series of movies, satisfied that craving for another period adventure movie. Are there some glaring plot holes? Yes. Is there some ridiculous writing? Yes. Are there some just unbelievable happenings? Absolutely. Is it a great 2 hours of pop corn filled fun and adventure? You better believe it.Brendan Frasier and Rachel Weiss have great chemistry together and he really does come off as a pulp action hero. The supporting cast, especially Arnold Vosloo and Oded Fehr, are wonderful in their roles. The campiness is there and intentional but it doesn't detract from the spectacle of the movie at all. The CGI visuals are dated (it was 1999 after all), but they are easy to get past if you keep that in mind. The humor keeps what could be a dark story ( a mummy coming back to life to wreak destruction and death, and succeeding in quite a bit of it) lighthearted and enjoyable, even for tweens. Some scenes may still be too intense for those younger than 9 or 10. It would probably be along the same lines as Pirates of the Caribbean as far as age appropriateness and intensity. If you just want to chill with a bucket of pop corn and an adventure movie that doesn't take itself or it's characters too seriously and is more concerned with being fun than with Oscar-level writing, impeccable plot lines, or strict historical accuracy, you will be glad you watched The Mummy.

This review is in reference to obtaining the movie through Prime
I'll leave the movie review to others (I sat through the opening sequence, counting the factual errors in the story line), but I'll just say obtaining the movie was very simple through my TV and Prime. I was pleased to be able to use Discover points to rent it, which made it even easier.

Mummy movie
I bought this movie but it isn’t showing that it was bought. Not bad but not as good as The Mummy and the mummy returns.
