works great to fix my issue with my dashcam charging
I used this usb-c to usb-a data blocker to run in line with my Vava dash cam on my Silverado and it works great.I was having problems with my dash cam where my truck does not have a 12V accessory outlet and only USB-C and USB 3.0 type A ports in the truck and unfortunately the front ports are power and data. My truck was working great with the dashcam for a few months and most recently the camera would stop working and crash a lot. I noticed if I charged the internal battery on the camera outside the truck it would work for awhile and then the status light would go solid blue which would cause the camera to freeze and crash.Thankfully for my problem my co-worker recommended I try a data blocker since it seemed my truck was trying to communicate with the dashcam for god only knows why and i'm glad he suggested this. I tried the data blocker and the camera has been working solid for a week straight now.There are other data blockers from PortaPow that have missing data pins on them and these unfortunately do not have missing data pins on the USB-A or USB-C end but I will say it definitely does block the data transmission/reception.

When all you need and want is power without data transfer
When you want power but not a data connection, this adapter is perfect. When travelling well worth packing with a small collection of adapters. asin=B08XK4WPZ4

Failed to work
Normally, I test all my cables in the office before I take them on the road, but I'd never had an issue with PortaPow. This one, though, failed to work the first time I tried to use it. I know there's going to be a certain percentage of products that fail, but I was still a bit surprised and disappointed. I threw the adapter away (it was beyond the period when I could have returned it). I have since tested 9 different PortaPow adapters that I own, and they are all fine; this was the only C-to-A converter that I had bought, and I was disappointed that it failed when I needed it.

Works perfectly
I bought this for international travel but my plans got cancelled. However, in testing it worked perfectly by only allowing charging but no data transfer. Should be excellent protection from public USB connections.

Does exactly what it says - allows you to charge using a stand USB-A cable from a USB C-port with no security implications either way. You can use someone else's computer to charge you phone or allow someone to charge their phone from your computer knowing the data connections are severed and no naughty interaction can happen. I carry this and a USB-A version in my briefcase wherever I go.
