SunFounder RFID Kit Mifare RC522 RFID Reader Module with S50 White Card and Key Ring for Arduino Raspberry Pi

Normally, I tend to be forgiving with cheap sensors that may perform a little bit less than expected. Plus, I always double check my wiring.So, If I want the card to be read, I have to basically rub it against the sensor, sometimes on this side…. sometimes on that side… wave it around like a wand back-and-forth…. step back, step forward, wait…. rub it again…Yep, I am sending it back. I don’t have the patience this time.At any rate, the key fob is read just fine. That’s too bad.

Reading the firmware returns an unknown value, and the board barely works at all.It's seriously flaky, and consistently times out or goes into some goofy/busted state. I bought a legit RC522 board from a local supply store, wired it up to my Uno, and it works flawlessly.Some cards from this buyer may be good, but the one I got is definitely not.

This unit does not come with any explanation of the pin out, and if you look at the reviews you will find 3 different pin out guides; because the company cannot be bothered to even offer a 2"x3" piece of paper with a explanation of the pins. On top of that if you try to go to their web site you get SSL errors which are normally reserved for beginners who do not know how to configure a web site. FIND ANOTHER BRAND OF RFID READER TO BUY!!!

We had a knock off brand from Micro Center that had some bugs in the software. When it failed we bought this SunFounder board, card & chip. It worked instantly & is reliable & the code is stable! Definitely recommend the product & company.

We bought this to use in a science fair project and it took us a while to sort out how to use it (operator error!). After we discovered the issue, we've found it works perfectly and we're very pleased with it.No problems to report and this is a great value. Fully recommend.
