Q: Are they shiny and are they lined inside?

Hello, The material is not shiny and the inside of the pants is lined with a fleece material. (Single layer only)

I'm translating, but I'm a 30-32 inch waist, and I bought the medium and they fit great. I would go with the large if you are a size 16. BTW: I retired my tearaway pants (and the shorts version) this week. They were a total game-changer. I had foot surgery on my left foot in mid-August and I wore them non-stop to the surgery, on the return from surgery to home recovery, and and throughout my recovery everyday exclusively until last Tuesday, 11/2/21, when my orthopedic surgeon cleared me to wear a shoe on my surgically reconstructed left foot after 11 weeks of non-weight bearing using my knee scooter. Hope this helps!

It really depends on how snug you like your waistband. I would imagine a Medium would be comfortable enough, but any size will probably be too long for you. If you are in a wheelchair or scooter and sit most of the time, I wouldn't even worry about the length.

These tear away run short so my husband is tall and I ordered him a large he usually wears a large in sweats these are really nice
