Q: Are these waterproof?

So far they have been and there have been some torrential rains here

Q: Just hope bright are these really? Can I read a book at midnight with no moon?

This light is bright but battery life is shortened when using at maximum illumination. I don’t recall the last time I was up at midnight with no moon, let alone reading a book.

Q: Can you close the umbrella with it installed or do you have to remove it?

No it would need to come off to close the umbrella. But it opens and closes so easily I wouldn't think it's a problem.

Q: Are bugs drawn to these lights?

We have had no trouble with bugs coming to our light in Okla
