I bought this because it was written by Maya Angelou. Frankly I wish there were more pictures and not too excited about the recipes... a lot of southern food I think which I’m not very familiar with but I’m glad to try.

I love this book. It is so well written. The stories pull you in and make you feel like you are there. The quality of the book should have been described as excellent. The recipes are amazing. This book makes a great gift.

Its not a book for everyone.

I love everything Maya ever wrote. With this, love how each recipe is paired with a memory of hers.

Great book

Delighted with this book, containing lovely and entertaining reminiscences from Ms Angelou and some of her home cooking. I look forward to cooking some of these recipes but due to the “down home & southern” cooking there’s lots of pigs feet and head and tripe recipes which I doubt I’ll try. Many recipes are classics but it’s her stories around the recipes that are the draw here. As a collector of cookery books (trying to cut back though) its an item to treasure because of who wrote it as well as the recipes themselves.

This was just okay. Some of the recipes are ordinary and not something I would make. Might be a perfect recipe book for southern cuisine.
