REOTEMP FM-0 Orange Probe Handle for Compost Thermometers

If you are buying a long compost thermometer (3 feet or longer) and have a lot of compost to work with, be sure to buy this. The handle is necessary to help you push the thermometer into the compost pile. It is sturdy and a perfect fit. The orange color is important to help you locate the thermometer after you've walked away from it.We are an organic urban gardens company and make tons of compost all year long. Our compost piles are 15 feet wide, 6-8 feet tall and 100 feet long. We measure the temps all along the length of the piles several times a week. Typically, we stick the thermometer in the pile, then walk away to do other chores. It is easy to forget where you put the thermometer. The orange color allows us to instantly locate the thermometer far away.The price seems steep for a single piece of metal, but this is not a mass-produced item, it is well-built ... and worth every penny.

Using a compost thermometer without this guard is asking for an accident to happen. This fit my thermometer perfectly and affords almost 100% protection. It also serves as a very convenient handle so one doesn't need to hold it by the instrument which is protective in itself!

Very well designed and manufactured. It does exactly what it is intended to do which is to protect the thermometer. I am giving it 4 stars instead of 5 stars for 2 reasons. First, although it is very well constructed the price is high. Second, the large nut that connects the handle to the thermometer has female threads on both ends. Female threads are needed on the end closest to the handle to connect it to the thermometer, but male threads are needed to connect the tube which protects the probe when storing or transporting the thermometer. I had to attach a short pipe nipple (a short 1/2" pipe with male threads on both ends) to the lower end of the handle in order to attach the protective tube to the thermometer when not in use. With those caveats, it is a good product overall. I do recommend it and I would purchase it again.

Nice addition to the long temperature probe. Not necessary but nice to have. Probably not needed on a shorter probe as much.

This handle is great to use with their thermometer. It is heavy duty, and protects the thermometer completely. I bought this one, and a stainless steel one just to be able to tell the difference between my 2 thermometers. You can grab and twist this handle instead of the thermometer, so your thermometer will last longer. I definitely and highly recommend this product!

Works as expected

This is definitely needed for your compost thermometer. Attached easily to the thermometer and protects the gauge completely. It’s heavy duty metal and very well made. We definitely recommend it.
