D.R.Harris & Co Windsor Triple-Milled Shaving Soap Refill 100g

Fantastic shave soap! Bought to refill a previous shaving bowl from D.R. Harris. Love the smell and lathers up in no time. Conditions the skin so you can make a few passes with your razor. You can't ask for a better shave soap.

I am in my seventies now and I would say this is the best shaving soap I have ever used.

I'd never tried a triple-milled shaving soap before, but I like a very stiff brush, and so it seemed like a good idea. This one received strong reviews, so I went with it, and now after getting most of the way through it, I can say that I like it—*but*.So first, the good: The soap itself has a mild, pleasant smell, but it doesn't seem to stick around after shaving. It also doesn't dry my skin out (and my skin is very susceptible to drying out), even in the painfully dry winters we have where I live. (It isn't particularly moisturizing, either, but that isn't really a problem for me.) And it produces a really, really good lather—sort of. And that 'sort of' is the root of my big problem.If you can lather this soap up properly, it's amazing. It distributes well over your face nicely and lubricates your shave beautifully. However, it's really difficult to get it to lather right—you have to get the absolutely perfect amount of water in the mix. Too little by even a few drops and the lather is too dry and doesn't lubricate your shave properly, too much water by a just a minuscule amount and the lather is too loose and won't really stay on your face well (not to mention that it drips everywhere). The best strategy I've found is to start with it too dry and slowly add water until you get it right—but it's altogether too easy to add too much to the finicky mix (especially first thing in the morning), and once it's too wet there's no going back.So for someone with perhaps more patience and—I'll be honest here—skill than me, sure, this could be the only shaving soap you'll ever need. But for me, I want something more forgiving (I've had a much easier time with Mitchell's Wool Fat, for example).
