what i the max weight these extentions will carry?

are the screw holes slotted to account for wood movement?

Holes are not slotted, but you can easily oversize, or ovalize them yourself. Yes, you should still allow for wood movement of the top against the slides. this has nothing to do with the sliding (moving) action of the slides themselves.

This may be a dumb question, i am replacing my slides on my table. Do I measure the slide itself or the leaf? Leaf measures 16" slides 38".

To determine the size you need to purchase, measure the distance of the gap that the leaf will occupy and then you know how far the slides will need to cover to open to accomodate the leaf. If 16" is the width you need for the leaf it seems that the 38" may be more than you need. If your table is big enough it may still allow you to use the 38", but you may not need to buy that large of a slide. My recollection is this company sells a smaller slide.

I wanted to build a narrow table, maybe 30" between the aprons. You say at 38" between aprons. Would this still work?

I don’t see a problem. These are only about 5 inches across so if the aprons are 30 inches apart you could easily separate them by 12-16 inches depending on leg width. On both my tables I had to cut a hole in the apron the ends of the table to accomodate the slide. Mine was not narrow so I can not say I have experience with this exact problem
