Perfect!
This was as great kit. I had two cubes purchased from School Smart, and I like the quality of the Learning Resources items better. I purchased the kit to help my Kindergartner with numbers and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the Activity Book that was included for Grades 3-6. The flats, rods, and units came individually packaged inside the box. Our box of units was ripped, and we were missing one unit. Not a huge deal, but I'll be contacting the seller to see if they can send another one. The box itself is able to hold all of the items included, plus two additional cubes and still be closed. It's a heavy duty box, so we'll be able to use it to store everything away nicely when not in use. It was definitely worth the money! Update: I contacted Learning Resources Customer Service about the missing unit. I could have returned the whole product to Amazon, but I didn't want to mess with returning a large box when I was only missing a tiny piece. Customer Service was fantastic! They didn't have the blue units as a replacement piece, but offered to send me ten yellow ones if I didn't care about the color. I didn't mind having a different color if it meant I didn't have to deal with a return. I highly recommend this product and the company.

excellent tool to learn multiples of 10's
lightweight plastic. seems sturdy. unweighted. each smallest cube about 1cm x 1cm. thus using this as a unit you get. 100 x 1 unit 50 x 10 unit (as a bar) 10 x 100 unit (as a square) 1 x 1000 unit (as a cube) workbook has some problems to solve using the book. leveled grade 3-6. I find this better for just playing around and explaining math problems that we encounter at school. My daughter says these are the same blocks she uses at school to learn math concepts. This allows the introduction of concepts of multiplication by 10's. highly recommend at least 1 set.

Perfect in helping my son master a concept over the summer that he didn't quite get when addressed at school.
I would like to say how much this item has helped my son with only working with it a little. I had previously made a paper base ten set using small stickers but my son still didn't really get the place value concept using those. This set is something that he is excited to use because he wants to build towers and patterns with the pieces so today we used this set combined with a few other things for a lesson that seems to have finally helped the concept click for him and I am looking forward to teaching him more concepts with this set over the summer. (My son is 7 and just finished first grade) The items I used with this set was a dry erase pocket that I put a paper into which I drew a place value chart on and the place value dice set that I had also gotten off of Amazon. I had my son roll the dice and had him write the numbers on the chart where they belong to make the number then I went over how to read the number. The next step in our process of learning place value is that I had him pull the correct amount of different value blocks from this base ten set according to the number we had written on the board that was derived from the dice. The last step is what kept his interest through the whole ordeal because my son has trouble concentrating normally and that was that I let him make a unique tower creation using only the blocks he pulled for that number so that every time he makes a tower it will be different because the amount of blocks allowed for it were different. I am very happy to have finally broken through with this concept for him before he hits second grade where they will most likely have taken for granted that he already knew this. I would also like to note that when stacked the hundreds flats resemble the thousands block so my son was able to accurately see how they related and surprised me by doing this himself and telling me what it meant. I was so sure he didn't have this concept down before and my paper set I made could not show this. The sizes of the squares in each increment piece is just as comparable from the ones to the tens to the flats to the cube which is helpful. If there is one drawback from this set it is that there is only one thousand cube, but I knew this upon purchase and I know that if more were in included the price would be higher. For my son's present education level I am content to limit him to 2000 and below for addition and subtraction and place value.

Great for visual & tactile learners!
These have been a fantastic resource to use while teaching my 4 year old math! They are a good size and sturdy. I agree with others that have said it would be nice if the 1000s cube were weighted appropriately, but it isn't a deal breaker. These come in a nice box that I am still using to store them in, and the guide included will be good for us when he's a few years older. These are exactly what I had in mind and are good quality.

Sturdy, well-made, and great for the visual learner
I homeschool my children. My 7yo was having a hard time understanding why borrowing/regrouping works but this made it "click" within 10 minutes, so much so that he can do many problems in his head now. I can think of many other concepts where these will be helpful and plan to get many years of use from these (he is the oldest of 5). Wish I'd gotten them 2 years ago. Our former math curriculum used dimes and pennies to teach place value but these manipulatives are much more intuitive.

Awesome resource! and so easy to clean!
Actual rating probably closer to 4.5 stars. I bought these a few years ago and, I must say, they have really held up well! My favorite part about these is that they are plastic, not the foam that a lot of these sets are made out of. With foam, I feel like they get dirty easily but with these, they stayed pretty clean. If they did get dirty, they were super easy to wipe down; I've even written on them in Expo marker and it wipes right off! My ONLY complaint would be organizing them. They come in a good sized box but I also like to assess how things can be stored in my classroom/ if the students can put them back without assistance and these items are harder to get back into the box nice and neat where the lid closes. So, for the organized teacher, you'll probably want to use/purchase a separate storage option which is the reason for knocking off half a star.

Good quality set that helps make things clearer for visual thinkers. Would recommend. Comes with an activity book but seems a little advanced for my six year old sons level at the moment

Use these to teach maths. Great to help understand quantities, numbers, place value, 4 rules etc.etc. I would say invaluable to make numbers secure in early years and useful for so many concepts. No gimics or fancy stuff just does what it says on the box, and a whole lot more. Great!!
