The Vegetarian Cookbook: More than 50 Recipes for Young Cooks

Fantastic For Adults Too!
I got this as a gift for an adult with little cooking experience and they loved it. It has pictures of all the steps for each recipe (which is uncommon in cookery books) and it has other useful information in the opening pages about techniques, tools, ingredients and general advice for new cooks. It's aimed at children, but an adult new to cooking would get a lot out of this, especially if trying to build confidence with small wins. The recipes aren't difficult, but they provide a solid foundation for moving on to more complex dishes, and are set up in such a way, that you could easily customise them with different ingredients. Another key feature this book includes that many don't, is nutritional information for each recipe, which is doubly important for vegetarian dishes, as they can often be unbalanced. In the back you have a quick breakdown of the nutrition for each dish (as well as on the recipe pages themselves), a glossary of terms in alphabetical order, and a separate index for each dish and ingredient.I chose this because it has a good mix of fun dishes, as well as things you could regularly have in the week, including: starters, mains, drinks and sweet options. Protein options are covered here with a range of legumes, cheeses and grains; but you can also swap in tofu, seitan and other textured-vegetable proteins very easily into the base dishes, for better balance. It's still a good book for non-vegetarian beginners, as a lot of the dishes can substitute the protein source for meat or fish.I have been the test subject for many of the dishes in this book, and I have lived to tell the tale every time ;)Overall, I would highly recommend for new vegetarian cooks. I wish all beginner books were like this.

This was for my 11 year old grandson who was very pleased with it and has already done some of the suggested dishes. Some were better than others but he was able to use the book and cook the dishes without assistance

Very nice, well illustrated book.
Bought this well illustrated book for my 10 year old granddaughter who has just started cooking and baking. She enjoys vegetarian food. Good variety of recipes with clear instructions which are easy to follow and she will have no difficulty recreating them. I like the way it is laid out and also the useful information about hygiene, knife skills, nutrition and the different categories of ingredients. Good value for money.
