Neon Gods: A Scorchingly Hot Modern Retelling of Hades and Persephone (Dark Olympus, 1)

LOVED IT
This book is going to live rent free in my head for awhile. The chemistry between Persephone and Hades was PERFECT and so adorable and spicy. And the writing was really good. Example: “He’s so out of place here in his black suit and broody good looks, like a hellhound that wandered into a garden party.” —lol, I love it! Katee Robert characters really jump out from the page. She does first person POV extremely well. All her characters feel different and real. I have read some of her other works that are a little spicier than this one with MMF scenes, but I know I’ll be rereading this one!

Captivating must read!
#BookReviewTitle: Neon GodsAuthor: Katee RobertRating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐Neon Gods by Katee Robert is an electrifying read that had me hooked from start to finish. The author masterfully weaves together elements of romance, mythology, and the allure of the forbidden. The characters are well-developed, and the chemistry between the leads is sizzling.#NeonGods delivers a unique take on Greek mythology in a modern setting, and it's a rollercoaster of emotions, passion, and intrigue. The world-building is vivid, and the narrative is engaging, making it a must-read for fans of fantasy romance. However, a few plot twists felt a bit predictable, which is why I'm giving it 4 stars. Nonetheless, Katee Robert's storytelling is captivating, and I can't wait to read more from this talented author.#BookRecommendation #RomanceReads #Mythology #KateeRobert

Ever thought Hades and Persephone's tale needed a little... zing? Katee Robert thought so too.
Welcome to Neon Gods, where the underworld isn't just dark—it's sizzling.Olympus, but not the postcard version. It's split by the River Styx, where gods don't lounge on clouds but rule the urban sprawl. Persephone finds herself a pawn in a game she never wished to play. But where does one hide in a city of gods? The answer lies in the enigmatic embrace of the lower city, where myths are more real than one might think. Especially one myth in particular: Hades, who's very much real and not the myth everyone believes him to be.The interplay between Hades and Persephone is everything I needed in my life that I didn't know I was missing.Persephone is not your damsel in distress. She's observant, intelligent, and knows how to play the political game of Olympus. She's also kind-hearted, cares deeply for her sisters and the citizens of Olympus (lower and upper city.)Hades, on the other hand, is the brooding type with a soft center. He's built a reputation of being ruthless, but he genuinely cares for his people. And his people adore him all the more for it.As their paths intertwine, Persephone discovers Hades's world, a place where desires are laid bare and exhibitionism is an art form. Together, they hatch a daring plan to defy Zeus, it ends up becoming less about revenge and more about showing Zeus how passion truly looks. Their relationship isn't just a fleeting romance; it's a dance of mutual respect, trust, and electric chemistry. What truly enamored me was the depth of their relationship. Hades and Persephone aren't just another tragic love story. Neon Gods beautifully prioritizes consent and trust, elements often overlooked. It was refreshing, to say the least. Every interaction between Hades and Persephone was built on mutual respect and understanding. Their relationship wasn't just about passion; it was about two souls finding and trusting each other amidst chaos. The BDSM elements are handled with care, emphasizing the importance of consent and communication. The raw vulnerability and thrill of being seen, of displaying one's desires and passions so openly, made me wonder if there might be a hidden exhibitionist deep within me. Those scenes were scorchingly hot. Anytime I was reading in public, I felt like I was smuggling spices in a world of only vanilla...Final VerdictNeon Gods felt like riding Pegasus through a thunderstorm. If Sarah J. Maas and Leigh Bardugo had a bookish love child with a hint of "Blade Runner" vibes, this would be it. It's not your grandma's romance, and thank the gods for that!

I didn’t really enjoy this 😅
This at first glance seemed like a promising read. I mean who doesn’t like Hades/Persephone spin-offs? So I was pretty disappointed when it started out good and then immediately, and I do mean IMMEDIATELY, snowballed. For starters, the language the author uses is just a big turn off for me. I don’t really like how characters are described so bluntly with being ‘white’ or ‘black’. It just feels immature in writing. There are other ways to describe skin tone that don’t sound so harsh or blunt. And then the random need to add that certain characters are bisexual for no apparent reason. It provided nothing to the story or for the main characters and was given as a passing comment. It just felt like ‘woke’ crap being forced on me.If we go to the characters, Persephone I found was actually decent. I didn’t particularly like this take on Hades. Cause it’s repeatedly trying to give this idea that Hades is big and bad but really he’s too gentle and soft for what I imagine a Hades would be. It just didn’t fit to me. Then not sure if this was just me, maybe I missed something or read too fast, but sometimes it felt like the author was giving knowledge to character that shouldn’t have gained it yet. Like us as the reader was already aware, but Persephone would magically know about it without there being a scene between her and Hades speaking about it. She knew an awful lot about a man that was supposed to be nothing but a myth and not real. And then the promise of a Hades/Persephone spin-off: that is not this. At least not what I think most people would expect. I’m sorry but I was expecting a slow burn, enemies to lovers kind of deal(not necessarily enemies but definitely not this friendly this quick). If anybody was more true to their character, I’d say it was Demeter. As far as the ‘spicy’ scenes go- they are alright. They aren’t terrible. The only thing that was a real problem was how badly they were taking over the plot of the story. Which I think may be partially my fault. I knew there would be mature scenes but I didn’t realize it would take up more than half the book. It was just unnecessarily too much. SPOILER ALERT: I mean there was one in the epilogue for gods sake. Like when I reached it i couldn’t really believe it. As if trying to extend the story that bit more. Like I mentioned previously- unnecessary. Now the book wasn’t completely horrendous. There were good points. It’s definitely a very quick read. Easy too. I think the concept and the world this is set in is very cool too. There just wasn’t enough plot because of what was mentioned before this. But other than that, I don’t think I’ll be reading the next one. The childish language is not for me and that’s usually where I draw the line.

Simplesmente perfeito!
O livro é lindo e a narrativa envolvente, o ponto de vista vária entre Perséfone e Hades o que só acrescenta na riqueza de detalhes dos personagens.

BUY THIS BOOK!!
This book is AMAZING! I heard about this book because of Tiktok lol and it did NOT disappoint! It showed up earlier than expected and was in great condition! I'm almost done the book, there's 31 chapters and I'm on chapter 23. It's got so many spicy scenes and they're so juicy hahaAs per the photos I posted with this review and the only complaint I have, is that the publishing company missed these typos. Im fairly certain there's a 3rd one that I forgot to take a pic of, I'm considering using a pen to try and correct the first one lol but no other complaints! It's different to read a Greek God's related story that isn't set in Ancient Greece and that isn't about the original Greek God's themselves, in this story the original God's have long since died and the "people" of Olympus have since been voted into the roles of said dead God's for a few generations. There's no talk of mortals, demi God's or of these newly elected people having any relation to the original God's. (Zeus, Hades, Aphrodite and so on are now just titles and positions that people are elected into and they take on that name of the God or Goddess once elected.)lol but that's ok because the Author did amazing with the premise of the God's, because realistically the story doesn't need those kind of Ancient details as this is a modern vision of Olympus, designed as a city and is still away and a part from the mortal realm and it works great!
