Q: Is this mazi jarkey made out of plastic like the standard jarkey is. i keep breaking the regular ones and was looking for something more sturdy.

Thank you for your question. This item is made of a durable plastic, and is specially designed for thicker jar lids between .5 and .75 inches thick.

Q: Will the maxi open smaller lids, as well as those over 1/2"? Or, do I need one of each size?

I didn’t even know there was a MAXI! But, for sure, my regular jarkey will not open a lid that is 1/2”. I can see I might need one of each size! Sorry I could not directly answer your question as to whether the larger will also accommodate a shorter lid.
