Excellent Features and Sound
I do professional web design and coding, and many of my clients have blogs or other video material they post to their sites. I got this microphone set up in a space for my clients to record their materials. It's been mostly great.SETUPSetup is quick. Just plug it into a USB port on your PC/laptop, and it's recognized right away and ready to use.OPTIONSThis microphone has great direction/sound options. The physical dial is easy to turn, with clear markings that are visible at all times while recording.STABILITYThe microphone base really works. I can set the microphone on table, move it around, or angle the microphone inside the base to any position, and it stays put and does not tip over. The wires run through the base in an intelligent fashion.SOUND QUALITYThe recordings made from this mic are wonderful. A lot of my clients do interview recordings, and voices from both directions recorded with this mic are full, natural, and very clear. It's very sensitive, and can pick up even subtle voice nuances.DIRECTIONALITYThis is a mixed picture. While the sensitivity of this microphone is terrific, extraneous sounds get detected, even with the microphone aimed and set for specific directions. This is good to keep in mind when determining your microphone usage. I find that this microphone is best used when everything is set up to be quiet around the interviews. For interviews in noisy or outdoor environments, this microphone is a bit more of a challenge.CONCLUSIONSThis is a terrific microphone overall. It's designed wonderfully, with easy controls, and terrific sound quality. Keeping in mind the directionality challenges, I recommend it.

Good for recording yourself or speaking with others. Works best though laptop or CPU
I use this mic for podcasts. I find it works best if you are using a CPU or laptop. I had mixed results with my iPad. This mic delivers excellent quality on Skype calls, both live and recorded. My calls have never sounded so clear. However, on my iPad this mic becomes a problem. 1st of all, it is recognized as headphones by the iPad. You cannot hear the other person you are talking to unless you plug headphones into the microphone. 2nd, the mic picks up the audio coming from your headphones as an echo. Lesson learned.

Rich Sound Capture; Cardioid Performance Lacking
In these times, highly selective electronics shopping can fetch wonderfully purposeful microphones for under $100. The feature-rich Boya BY-PM500 offers impressively sensitive sound capture, and a crisp, rich tonality that exceeded already high expectations reflective of the many great value options out there. That said, it comes down to intended use: Its cardioid pattern picked up tertiary room noises too easily, and without much differentiation from its omnidirectional pickup pattern. If you're alone in a quiet podcasting or teleconferencing environment, that cardioid performance won't matter. If you can't find solitude, or wish to use a microphone in a band and or studio setting, look elsewhere: It'll pick up too much from the periphery. This is a robust, attractively weighty piece of tech, and a situationally great value at this low-cost price point. But it's not for everyone. - (Was this of use? If so, let me know by clicking "Helpful." Cheers!)

As Good As the Big Name Competition
I've always wanted a professional looking microphone since I always see them on my YouTube podcasts, and most of them look to be from Blue Yeti, with their cheapest being at around the same price. To be honest, I would not have bought from Boya had I not had a chance to review this, since I had never heard of the brand before. But that's why review programs such as this work well for the general good of everyone, as it allows us to test things we normally wouldn't buy, and therefore be a missed chance for the sake of competition and competitive pricing. So I am here to say that this microphone works great. Is it as good as a Blue Yeti? I can't tell you as I don't have one. What I can tell you though, is after uploading to YouTube and hearing them back on various media such as my iPhone 12 Pro Max/Samsung Note 20 Ultra, my HP Spectre x360 laptop, my iPad Pro 12.9", and my Vizio OLED TV, I can say that the audio sounds as good as those podcasts which I've listened to. I don't know how much YouTube compression takes away and mashes up everything to sound similar, but I know the quality is higher than of recordings from my two phones. The sound is warmer, richer and more substantial, like the voice is right in front of you, as opposed to more hollow and in the back from the phones.I can't say if all Boya products are of similar high quality, but this is a good product, and I can confidently recommend this microphone.

Became my new daily-use mic!
Ever since my old Samson Meteor mic gave out, I've been trying to find something to replace it. I've tried mics with mixers, ones with all the bells and whistles, and for one reason or another, none of them seemed to be as good. This mic though gets the closest I've come to the performance, sound, and features I had in my Samson mic (and then some)! The pickup is just about perfect. If you get too close, it can clip a little, but from a distance of about 3-6 in it picks up my voice perfectly. There is no distortion and the audio is very clear. It also has a headphone jack so you can monitor the mic input as well as listen to audio from the computer. I've had mics before where my voice overwhelms any audio coming from the computer. While they aren't independently controllable like I would like, I can still hear my voice as well as audio coming from the computer. I also like the option to switch between a cardioid pickup pattern and an Omnidirectional pattern since I occasionally use this mic with my wife for family events over zoom.Even though the stand is very nice with a decent amount of weight, it can also be mounted to a boom arm instead of the included stand. I use this so that I can keep it out of the way when I'm not using it. However, it should be noted that the screw mount is larger than average and may require an adaptor. Thankfully, the boom arm that I had came with the adaptor, but it's not true with all arms.Overall, I am very happy with this mic and I think I've finally found my long-term replacement for my Samson Meteor mic.
