What size is the hole where the tap is fitted? I'd like to buy a stainless steel one to replace the plastic tap.

Which replacement filters do I need to filter out the most amount of heavy metals?

I believe the black ones take out most of the heavy metals etc.

Is it suitable for use by vegans? What is inside the filter cartridges?

I'm a vegan and from my research of water filters in general they don't use any animal products in their manufacture. I bought this one because it extracts fluoride from the water. I'm very happy with my purchase. If you need any more I do about the cartridge you could email the seller - Waterfilterman and I'm sure they would be able to give you more details. Hope this helps.
