Master Guide Handbook to Outdoor Adventure Trips: Expert Advice on Camping, Canoeing, Hunting, Fishing, Hiking & Other Adventures in the Woods

As I am working toward becoming a Maine Guide I found this book to be very helpful. It not only outlines some philosophies and considerations but also has useful lists and some great anecdotal stories from some great guides.

I am studying to become a licensed Maine Guide. This book is almost a textbook for someone who needs to study for that type of test. The pictures are nice and clear and work with text. Mr. Gilpatrick is a great author and this is the second book of his that I have.

Interesting book. I have a couple of his books, and enjoy them. We are both Master Maine Guides, so we have a lot in common, although I do not take groups on long canoe trips. I always enjoy learning about different things, and Mr. Gilpatrick is a recognized expert in his field.

An excellent book, full of practical knowledge and experience gained over decades. I would particularly recommend this book to Boy Scout leaders as it covers a lot of areas that regular BSA training doesn't always address, such as lost person scenarios, trip planning and group dynamics.

Seems to have some good ideas. Although I am a little confused about some varying info. In another book the author wrote he talks about building cedar strip canoes with his high school students. These would later be used and as said "tested" by his clients on his guide service. In THIS BOOK, same author tells of his not being seen in anything other than a cedar canoe, but putting his guide clients in a canoe made of materials that would stand up to the punishment a novice paddle makes. So which is it Gil?
