Substance over style
I run a business bookclub on LinkedIn (The Business Bookcase) and this book was our Book of the Month for October. Byron also generously agreed to be interviewed, live, by me alongside.I found the book to be insightful and practical. The concept of living your life "at cause" or "at effect" and the impact that can have on you and your business, as a CEO, is profound when you look into it at depth.Byron provides step by step actions for CEOs to take when they are trying move from reacting to things that might be happening, to a position of pre-activity that allows them to take control of those things that can be controlled. The written style is how Byron thinks and speaks - fast and full of enthusiasm. The key here is not the style but the substance and there is plenty to get your teeth into here if you're a CEO in the difficult position of not being able to take the control that's required.I really enjoyed reading this and got a lot out of it, even though I'm not a CEO. I imagine, though, for first-time CEOs that this is a must read book. It's easy to read and not very long - so ideal for busy schedules.

Interesting - is speed read
Much like many other books of its kind, it seems like common-sense - after it is read. The author has pulled together many observations and experiences in his business life and stated the distilled essence into skills to assist high level business people, e.g. ways of being removed from the “effects” syndrome to the “cause”, ie ways of freeing the mind and diary from reactive to proactive.Much of it is common sense and a little repetitive but the author has drawn many ideas together which, when read quickly, will provide food for thought. Worth a read but taking it from page to reality may prove to be the tricky part..

A practical guide for all aspiring and senior leaders and executives
Even though I'm a Business Analyst not a CEO at this stage in my career, I saw this book and found the book overview and reviews interesting. I purchased the book and really enjoyed it, it's not just for CEOs, it can be for anyone - leaders, managers and other senior level executives. I found it to be a really practical guide to focusing on the right things, making decisions and dealing effectively with anxiety and overwhelm at work. I'm looking forward to reading other books by Byron Morrison.
