Stringed Jam Cajon, Handcrafted Birch Wood Percussion Box with Internal Guitar Strings, Compact & Lightweight Acoustic Drum, Anti-Vibration Feet, Brown (PCJD15)

I ordered this cajon for my father, who had just learned of the instrument from a friend, who had a homemade version. I am a lover of all that is down-home musical (currently experimenting with a diddley bow), but wasn’t familiar with the cajon. I was intrigued with the concept (a sit-upon, unplugged, adjustable/variable percussion beast), but was skeptical of the low price for such an instrument. I knew the Pyle brand, so gave it a try, with my father’s blessings. If you are curious about the cajon, it is so worth it to try this one out! It produces impressive percussion sound (with varied tones, depending on how close to the center and with what you strike it, while sitting on it). Yes, you sit on it (no worries, it is surprisingly solid and well-made, truly surprisingly beautiful wood finishing for the price). The “guitar strings” that provide that snare-type quality are situated behind the front cover, accessible through a large hole in the back of the unit (not well illustrated in the item pictures, but this is where the loud sound emanates from). They arrived taut, no need to adjust, but there is a hex wrench included with the cajon, in a cute little hole drilled in the vertical support between those strings, for when adjustment becomes necessary. When I placed the order, I felt like this instrument might be a little too good to be true (at this price), but I have to admit it is comparable, sound wise, to my African jun jun. If you’ve seen a cajon in action (YouTube has some amazing solo videos) and you want to check one out, you will not be disappointed with this one!

I bought this drum for my special lady. The quality is very good, the sound is excellent and the snare works as expected. She is very happy with this drum.

The PCJD15 Cajon is great, Very sturdy wood box and works exactly as it should. I am 6 feet tall and weigh around 200 lbs. and this box supports me with no problems. Very High Quality construction in my opinion. There is a hex wrench inside of the box stuck through a hole designed to hold the wrench, pull it out and you can adjust the rattle by turning the 2 hex screws on the bottom of the Cajon, tighten to get less rattle, loosen for more. It didnt take much of a turn to get what I wanted just about 1/8th of a turn tighter and I'm happy. The red color is not as bright as it seems here in the pictures and overall the Cajon is Great Looking, Great Sounding and for me Just Perfect! I would even consider buying a couple more for an ensemble.

I am not a percussion player. But, I am a bass player, and pay a lot of attention to percussion! Only had a couple of days, here's my impression so far: Beautiful. Not perfect, but didn't expect perfection at this excellent price. Was concerned that the red might look cheap. It does not. Sound quality, can't really comment yet. I am not a cajon player. Will definitely be looking into tuning the strings for best sound. Here's what I do know. The price is excellent. Having a cajon around the home studio a good idea! Available for parties, ditto! Being able to bring one to the open mic, so some random girl can play it, double ditto! Also hoping to expose my kit drummers to the cajon. If they could learn to play an small acoustic percussion instrument, my life would be much better!

I have a much higher quality cajon and bought this for my niece and nephew after I found out they loved playing mine. The smaller size than average is great for kids but I enjoyed playing it just as much. Would be great for traveling. The sound is absolutely awesome for what it is. Side by side with mine it sounds different but still very pleasing and mine was 4 times as much. It's also built well for the price and handled the abuse of the kids trying to climb on it like a champ. For getting started, a beater to take to gigs, or just another cajon to have sitting around for your buddy to play while you play yours, this thing is awesome.

Researched a lot of reviews on cajons as I am a first time player. I wanted a quality item that was well made with great sound but not a high price tag. Started banging on it right out of the box and it needed no adjustments. I expect over time as I improve I will make adjustments. I'm not an experienced drummer although I have been banging on my steering wheel for 30+ years. Received shipment in two days. No dings or other blemishes noted. Added bonus that I will receive a carrying case as a result of writing a review. Would buy again.

This is my first cajon, and I am really enjoying it so far. It's a great size - not too tall but not too short - for comfortable playing. I can't compare it to other cajons since I lack that experience, but it sounds great. Plenty of bass, but not so much that it overpowers the other tones. The snare is crisp, and overall it's just very balanced. It also seems well made, with sturdy materials. I'm not a very big guy at around 175lb, but it feels like it would support someone into the high 200s easily. I expect to have this for a long time - thanks for the great product Pyle!

ehhhhh. super snarey which if you want that, it’s cool. but it sounds like you’re in a marching band no matter what way you tune it. mine came dented too but i didn’t want to go through the process of exchanging it since i don’t really like it anyways

I've received this Cajon only a week from the purchase day with the standard delivery (even not with Prime account), Amazon always makes me surprise with their service. From the outside: the quality of this Pyle Cajon looks really good and sturdy. Moreover, I also love the ruby red color, which combines perfectly with the wood light yellow one on the front. From the perspective of spending, it is really a wonderful product on its price. About the sound: when I try it for the first time, I feel it quite stiff, however, after around few hours of playing, the sound is improved, and better. I believe it needs some burn-in process, like speakers. The more I experience this Cajon, the more I discover its diversity in the sound stage and style. The volume is fitted with my small room; however, if you like the louder sound, I think you should consider the PCJDBG18 model, because the bigger space would create the deeper bass. At last, I hope the manufacturer should include a one-page quick guide on how to tune their Pyle Cajon. For example, I used to be confused by the tapes on the string snares, I don't know whether its function only supports a delivery process or they should be stayed permanently, until I found the answer in the Q&A that the sound could be different without the tapes. In general, I am very happy with your Pyle Cajon product, if my friends ask me about the Cajon, I will recommend them to buy this, or the bigger BG18 model.
