3.5 STARS - THOUGHT WE'D NEVER GET TO AN HEA!
l have enjoyed most books in this series and I enjoyed the connection with Ford and Violet more in book 5.This is still good, but too much drama at times, and made me start not to care if they got together, but it did improve. There is above mild descriptive lovemaking. I enjoyed that character's from book 5 made an appearance in this one. But, the author does a nice job of filling in back story so you are not lost, but I did enjoy book 5 better than this one, so don't miss out on a great story. There is some suspenseful moments, but I just wanted this copy to get together, and it was one kink after another thrown their way, that the road to HEA was anything but smooth. I have already purchased Rose and hope it is more in tuned to Violet's story. Also, no cliffhanger - yea!! (ljb)

Not one of her best.
After reading 'Violet,' I was ready for Lily's story. At 16, Lily met Rand, a friend of her brother-in-law. Rand was 20 and knew that Lily was too young for him. Four years later he meets her again and knows that he is still interested in her. Unfortunately, Lily's older sister, Rose is determined that Rand is meant for her and gets Rose to promise to help her land him. The beginning is interesting and I really liked both Rand and Lily. I especially liked Lily's way with animals and Rand's kind way of keeping Rose at bay without hurting her feelings. Then the story started to go downhill for me. I didn't mind that the language and attitudes of the characters was much too modern for the 1600s. I could deal with that until...**********SPOILER ALERT*************Lily's parents (an Earl and Countess) deliberately let her spend time alone with Rand, hoping that they will have sex. Nope, I just can't go along with that one. There is also a discovery and much discussion of a sex manual. Hmm. I don't think girls of that time would sit and an discuss something like this openly (find it and read it, sure). Again, too modern. ***************END SPOILER************ Also, in the beginning of the novel, I really thought Lily's cat, squirrel, and bird were cute. By the end I just wanted them gone. Especially the bird who apparently flew to every place that she traveled. Nope, sorry.Sexual situations will offend some readers

Very enjoyable story with vivid and lovable characters
I fell in love with Lily Ashcroft shortly before i read three chapters into this book. She is wise, strong, committed to family, and she is a bit funny. Lily has an older sister who causes strife in her life but she keeps family number one(sadly, in today's world, family means little when it comes to honor and love.)As you read, you will meet a man, Lord Randal Nesbitt, who has two women in love with him. (Personally, I never had this problem.) His Lordship is hiding several facts but you will have to read and find out what they are.The book may be a little slow in places but I don't see how the author could change much to speed it up; the reader needs all the background on the characters to feel the emotions of each one. Also, the descriptive is excellent and it allows the reader to fall into the story. This is the type and style of Historical Romance I hope many guys the will choose to read. I really enjoyed this episode of Chase Family and higher recommend you read.

Very good! The chemistry was on point! Violet's story was simpler better (in my opinion).
Even though I enjoyed the characters in this book, I thought the storyline was a bit complicated with too much going on. I found myself skipping some of the drama to get back to the love story. I would definitely still recommend this writer and series to anyone who enjoys this era of historical romance but I would pre warn about complicating things when providing facts about history and adding a very detailed and (in my opinion) almost unnecessary drawn out conflict between the Hero and his father. I ended up giving the book 5 stars because I still enjoyed the chemistry, the laughter, the love story, and history. I can't forget the escapism. All those elements are the reasons why I read these novels in the first place. So, thank you again Lauren Royal! You helped me get through another rainy day.

4.5 really. Very enjoyable & recommend it, but,
this story takes place in 1677 so I thought that the references to "white gold" in jewelry, and the "blue willow" pattern on dishes was incongruous with the time period. After checking that out, both items came along much later in history. 'White gold" was invented in the 19th century; and 1780 is the earliest reference I can find for the 'blue willow' pattern in England. Otherwise, the book is very well written with good character development and although it is part of a wonderful series, it is an independent story reaching its own conclusion. The steamy, romantic interludes would not suit readers looking for a 'clean' read.Dorothy

Really sweet
The story was sweet, almost saccharine. But Lily felt real especially when she started acting in her own interest. I like the Ashcrofts, but they aren't quite the Chases.

So many obstacles
Lily is an absolute delight, as are her furry and feathered friend. Rand had a lot of history to overcome but with a matchmaker in the family the happily ever after was assured.

Wonderfully Romantic and Passionate!
Beautiful, intelligent and kind, Lady Lily is a gentle soul with a passion for rescuing animals, who then return the favour by staying faithful to her. Although she became very attracted to the very tall and very handsome Lord Randal, with his gorgeous grey eyes. They had met previously, four years earlier, when Lily was just sixteen and Rand, who is close friends with Ford, her brother-in-law, thought she was to young to start a relationship with. Now they have met again and Lily is rather taken with Rand, and he with her, but unfortunately, her elder sister Rose has declared her interest in Rand, and has made Lily promise to help her win him over. Now gentle Lily is torn between the love and loyalty she holds for her sister and the growing love between her and Rand. But Rand's past is about to catch up with him, a darkness regarding his childhood and earlier life, which now threatens to keep him and Lily apart, and so this romantic adventure begins. As usual Lauren Royal captures your interest from the beginning to the end of this book, as she takes you on a romantic journey that twists and turns. This book is beautifully written, full of emotion, humour and passion. Lauren is a master of romantic books set in the Restoration period when Charles II was on the throne. You will not be able to put it down. I absolutely loved it, as I do all her books.

Another wonderful story in a great series
This is another wonderfully written story in a great series. The plot is full of emotional twists and turns. The characters are beautifully portrayed, with the strength to overcome their obstacles. This is a great book that would suit anybody who loves steamy historical romances that has a bit of mystery.

Again good story too much detailed sex
I really like this writers stories but hate the explicit sex that becomes porn. It is unnecessary and adds nothing to the value of the tale. Love the interactions with the animals. The mystery element provides some tense situations. I enjoyed the book just felt there was something lacking but can't put my finger on it.
