Heart wrenching read
I've been to Russia many times. Visited the Winter Palace and Alexandra Palace where the Romano-British family were imprisoned during the 1917 revolution. Reading the letters of Alexei to his friends showed the families lack of awareness of their coming executions.

Not really
Large print, thick book, and that is it.Diary notes of a boy, if you will. Somehow I am missing something. Some details as to his father are useful.I did not expect a historical introduction but neither was I prepared for just the diary.

A glimpse into a life cut short
This is an in-depth look at the Tsarvich through his letters, diaries and, through his tutors, sisters, and parents. It helps to form a comprehensive picture of how this child lived that suffered so greatly from hemophilia. He spent more time with his father Nicholas II than I had thought. He had a zest for life and found pleasure in many simple things like breaking ice and building a snow tower and receiving gifts from the regiments like an arrow. He loved animals and in many ways is shown as a typical little boy and a light that was extinguished way to soon. If you want to know how the last tsearvich lived get this book. A must for lovers of Romanov history.

Very sad knowing what happened
but you really feel you get to know him. Just a normal little boy who, like his sisters, didn’t deserve to be murdered in such a disgusting way.

Review
I really enoyed this book. It gave me the chance to get to know the real Alexei who was a very lovable and kind-hearted young boy who loved his parents, sisters and friends. He also loved animals and cared about all human beings, he wasn't haughty at all. How could anyone have wanted to harm him?
