Much better than I expected, but be warned: contains a very upsetting scene
This is a worthy sequel to The Shining, I was engrossed pretty much all the way though. Ewan McGregor plays a grown-up Danny from the original film. There's not much point me adding a synopsis, as you can read one elsewhere. As I say in the title there is what I thought was a very upsetting scene of a child being killed, which I found extremely uncomfortable to watch. Apart from that, I enjoyed Dr Sleep and found it to be one of the best horror type films I have seen.

Solid sequel to The Shining
Doctor sleep has alot to live up to and it delivers. Great cast and crew. Mike Flanagan is becoming one of best modern day horror directors out there. With the Midnight Mass and Fall of the House of Usher worth a watch too.

Overall, very very good
MILD SPOILERS I avoided this film for a while. How good could it be? I wasn't a huge fan of The Shining although I remember being terrified by it as a boy. Well, I was wrong. This film is very, very good as a sequel. I would say it is probably as good a sequel to The Shining as Bladerunner 2049 is to Bladerunner. Make of that what you will.Yes, it plods somewhat. At times it feels like a seventies movie which will bore many people. But - guess what - The Shining was practically a seventies movie (made in 1980) and this film manages to evoke that feel and yet feel timeless at the same time. For the MTV and beyond generation who make goldfish laugh of them because of their short attention span - you are going to struggle with this. But if you can force yourself to settle down you'll find deep, decent character development and scenery that looks like art.The bad guys - the True Knot - don't start out that creepy - in fact they just look like a bunch of travelling misfits - but that soon changes. I couldn't watch what they did to one of their victims - as a parent it was very distressing - but by the time things heat up you really feel in your core that they deserve what might be coming to them.By the time the film was in it's third act it suddenly heated up - and the twists came thick and fast. I found myself very excited to see what happened next and despite what others say I thought the ending was very appropriate. I shall read the book next, I think. The little girl was exceptional - I look forward to seeing her in other films. I haven't seen the theatre cut but the directors cut felt complete so I shudder to think what was cut out. This is one to buy.

Where King & Kubrick's world collide
Rebecca Ferguson shines in this impressive adaptation of King's sequel to The Shining, creating a story where King and Kubrick's world collide.Danny is all grown up now and has inherited his father's addictive personality. Seeking redemption for the demons of the past, he forms a relationship with Abra, a child with 'the gift', who is in danger from an ancient and dying clan of vampiric outlaws, feeding on pain and fear rather than blood and headed by the charismatic Rose the Hat, brilliantly played by Rebecca Ferguson, who manages to walk that thin tightrope between kitsch and pathos. As Rose homes in on Abra, she flees with Danny to the Overlook, one of the few places left with creatures more powerful than Rose, taking Kings tale into Kubrick's storyworld and a rousing finale.

Still a great movie.
As soon as this movie was released, it quickly became one of my favourite movies. So when the director's cut came out, I had to have it!An extra hour of my favourite movie?Go on then.Having said that, the director's cut isn't that different to the original.Obviously there's some extended scenes, but nothing really noteworthy tbh.The only bit I found changed the context was when Rose The Hat started talking about keeping Abra as "humans keep cows. Instead of killing it and eating it, we go and get milk from the cow EVERY DAY!"That definitely gave the movie a different direction imo.Although it was the only time Rose or Daddy Crow really talked about keeping Abra.In the original Daddy Crow says "what is she? Food? Or do we keep her?"Rose replies " don't be stupid! You know what she can do" (or words to that effect)So that was really the only major plot line that seemed to change for me. Although nothing ever comes of it.I'm a little surprised they managed to get an extra hour into this cut tbh. The extended scenes are just that, slightly longer scenes with a small amount of dialogue that doesn't really add to the overall arc of the movie, but I'm glad I bought it. It's still a great movie, but I'm not sure I'll want to watch 3 hours of it again. I think I'd rather watch the theatrical version.I suppose that's something to think about if you're buying movies to keep.

Superb!
But why it was change it the end for the movie? Why it was not an alternative ending and keep it the ending from the book?
