The Food Nanny Rescues Dinner: Easy Family Meals for Every Day of the Week
K**Y
It's "Cooking For the Rushed" and "Saving Dinner" all in one!
I feed 6-7 people every day for dinner, sometimes more if one or two of my kids' friends are over. I think about food all day even when it's not meal time because I'm thinking about what to put together to make a cohesive meal, if I laid it out to thaw, if I have enough of it, if I have any leftovers that I can incorporate so as not to waste food. It is exhausting. I purchase absolutely any cookbook there is that will help me make meal planning, prep and cooking easier. So when I saw this book I had to have it.The very first page was planning the weekly menu like I've been trying to do for years. This book is having Comfort Food on Monday, Italian on Tuesday, Fish & Meatless on Wednesday, Mexican Night on Thursday, Pizza Friday's, Grill Night on Saturday and Family Traditions on Sunday. I've been doing something similar but trying to make mine Meatless Monday's, [...]. But regardless of what you pick this is excellent meal planning advice. It gives yourself (and the kids and spouse) an idea of what to look forward to rather than coming home with pots and pans banging around with no idea of what to prepare. That is what I liked about the Sandi Richard book too, The Family Dinner Fix: Cooking for the Rushed . She has similar ideas to Ms. Edmunds. I would use a calendar that you get free in the mail and write your "theme" across the top. Your themes might be different than the suggested themes in this book but either way come up with 7 themes and write them across the top of the calendar. Now go to each chapter in this cookbook (or any other cookbook) and list a recipe that corresponds to that theme. List the page it is on and briefly write any side dishes that you would be serving with the main entree. Ms. Edmunds suggests making your menu first and then your grocery list second. I believe in making the grocery list first and then making meals from that. I try to buy what's on sale and then make meals from the sale foods rather than the other way around.I made the white chicken chili that was listed under the Comfort Food section. It's intended to be a Monday meal but I think we had it on a Wednesday (oops!). LOL. It was very good. Also under each recipe is a conversation starter. It's a question you're to pose to the family around the dinner table to stimulate conversation. I actually purchased these from [...] and here they are free. There are also bread recipes, side dishes, desserts, after school snacks, cooking tips, and other great ideas to get the family back to the dinner table. It's an awesome book. One of my better purchases. This is certainly a fantastic gift, wedding or otherwise. It would be a great gift for someone just starting to cook who needs ideas and instruction for getting a complete meal on the table.Another good cookbook I like is Saving Dinner: The Menus, Recipes, and Shopping Lists to Bring Your Family Back to the Table by Leann Ely. It has shopping lists, menus, and great recipes to get started. It's not laid out with "theme" nights like the Food Nanny but it's good nevertheless.

I WAS a cooking failure, not anymore! Few ingredients, easy.
I'm very busy work from home mom of 4 children. I was feeling really guilty seeing them eat frozen pizza, spaghettios, cold cereal and take-out almost every night but I HATE cooking! I saw the Food Nanny on her tv show and loved her!!! I got the book, committed to cooking 3 times a week and in between we can eat leftovers, on weekends kitchen is closed and we will go out to eat or eat sandwiches or spaghettios, etc. The recipes are so incredibly easy and very few ingredients!! I actually made homemade gravy!! I record the shows, fast-forward through all the commercials and touchy mooshy feelings stuff, watch her cook and then get out her book. The method of picking out 3 themes, writing down on a list what u need is so simple but it worked for me!! On Sunday afternoons I sit down and plan what I will cook for those 3 days of the week. I'm serious, If I can do this -- ANYBODY can who has an ounce of desire to do better at dinner time for their family. Get this -- I fixed for my 10 yr old a plate of homecooked meal (roast chicken, mashed potatoes, fruit salad) and picked her up from school to take to soccer. Normally we would run thru Wendy's drive-thru but not this time. She said "Woah, this is much better than Wendys!" I couldn't believe my ears! That was a small miracle. Watch her show, she is so energetic and happy that she makes a cooking illiterate like ME feel like I CAN cook and be successful. If u hate cooking like me, just take baby steps, just commit to 2 or 3 times a week.

Simple cookbook, good for basic meals and teaching new home cooks
This is a very simple cookbook. I bought it so I have ideas of what to make for dinner and more easily put together grocery lists as I don't have as much time as I used to for thinking about dinner. Essentially, it'll be a guide for me. I have my own style of cooking so I won't be using the recipes so literally. It will also be useful for when my husband makes dinner, or for when my kids are old enough to make a meal.I'm more interested in kamut flour now though and might purchase that cookbook after I try the flour.

Great ideas but recipes are heavier than I prefer
I love the ideas given in this book but I probably won’t use the recipes very often. The idea of having theme nights is great and has been helpful for me when meal planning.Although I love the ideas, I don’t see myself using the recipes very often. Most of the recipes are heavier than I prefer to eat most of the time. This is just my own preference and not the fault of the book - the author never claims that her meals are healthy. Overall, I’m glad I purchased the book for the ideas.

Must have cookbook!! One of my go to’s
I love this cookbook! I’m a recent empty nester and love the portion sizes in this cookbook. Enough for my husband and I plus lunch for the next day. Also the meals are great! Fish Taco’s w Santa Fe lime rice, creamy Parmesan baked halibut, chicken salad croissant sandwiches are all a few keeper recipes in our house! I’ve also been trying to incorporate Liz’s thoughts on spreading meals out by theme. It’s been fun. I follow Her daughter Lizi on Instagram and make their Kamut bread. That’s another great recipe book (For the love of Kamut).

The Food Nanny will change your life - not exaggerating
Reading the introduction for many cookbooks is just to whet your appetite for what style of food proceeds but the Food Nanny lays out her philosophy (and shares her life story) of how to plan your life and your meals to simplify the craziness that can hit at dinner time. Her focus on family time at dinner is a needed voice in the current go go go climate of raising kids.On top of all that, the recipes in this book are perfection. They will make you famous. The beef stroganoff, chicken burritos with salsa verde and lime, red and white mostaccioli, arugula pizza, her salads, and of course her desserts (start with the hello dolly bars) are great places to start and recipe that have made me famous around my family and friends. She's travelled the world, raised 7 kids, and complied the ultimate book(s) of recipes to feed your family well everyday.

Easy kid friendly recipes
Full of lots of easy, kid friendly recipes that don't need weird ingredients or take a million years to prepare. Food my Nan used to cook when we where kids. Healthy, tasty and comforting. We have food allergies and so far the recipes have been easy to modify with basic 1-1 switches.
