Best knife ever
This knife is a classic very sturdy lock back that you can rely on paired with amazing s30v that holds an edge like no tomorrow I had tried to steer clear of using it seeing that it is very expensive by purchasing A civivi with nitro v blade steel my first fancy bearing fast open action knife and after one day of use the edge is trashed and it just feels cheap. 3 to 4 weeks of solid edge use I get out of my trusty old buck is unmatched. Highly recommend this tool worth every penny

Oh Boy THIS IS IT ! Light, Strong, A Hand Full and Way Upscale Steel Alloy
This is another Dream-Come-True for me. See my review of the Buck 110 in aluminum for what I mean.As far as this particular 112 that I just received ; It Is Perfect (I do not say that lightly for I am a picky bastard):Edge nice and sharp all along the length including the tip. Good edge angle / can just trim one's fingernails with the edge and that's a sign the edge angle is optimized for great cutting performance (IMO).The color of the micarta inlays are more even (not blotchy like my 110) and leaning more to green than tan. Mine looks exactly like the image here on amazon. I like the blotchy tan of my 110 just fine though. They moved the thumb stud closer to the pivot so it is less of a reach when opening the knife. The 110 took a bit of practice to open using the thumb stud.Zero play in the pivot.Zero play in the lockup.Spring rate of lock release not too strong (if you own Cold Steel knives you know why I mention this). And finally the good ol' 112 size is so perfect for more urbane use . . . with the size of the 110 in the city I feel like I look like I am going some place to happen . . to use my Mom's phrase.UPDATE 10-23-24 : As reviewer Michael M. mentioned he may take the clip off ; yes I too found it to be a bit irritating when using the knife because the handle is so full in the hand. I took the clip off and prefer the 112 that way. The 110 seems fine with the clip on because the handle is enough longer.

Outstanding
Buck really nailed it with this model! I carried an OD Buck 422 during my tour in the Corps - a most reliable tool that served me well. In recent years, I've been looking for something similar. I've been watching the current 112 variants: slim, select, pros, etc. However, none really appealed to me. When I saw this more modern, higher-end take on the full-sized 112 with black and OD color scheme, and modern materials, I was quite pleased. This knife is rock solid! I enjoy the full thickness versus the slim version. It feels quite substantial in the hand. The micarta has a great feel/grip, as well. The blade deploys smoothly and locks up solid! I'm still not certain whether or not I will keep the clip on the knife. I hope the black aluminum will hold up with use, as the color scheme, while new, looks truly awesome. I'm very satisfied with this purchase. A fine American made product!

So close to perfect
If you’re only familiar with the Buck knives you can buy at big box retailers (which are a great value for your money) you’re really missing out on one of the best knife companies around. I try to stick with knives with a bos heat treat and have not once regretted a purchase. They’ve done fantastic stuff lately with 5160 and s90v. Anyway my knife came sharp with perfect lock up and excellent qc. For me personally the knife is just a bit too chunky. Might be a plus if you have large hands or wear gloves, but if either of those are the case get a 110. speaking of grip the micarta has excellent grip and feel. Last the blade is *only* s30. Had they made this knife 2/3 the thickness (or maybe auto with this amount of bulk) and out of just a slightly better s35 or m4 it would be darn near perfect.

Great update of a classic
If you like the 112 form factor and are willing to pay almost 2X for S30V, micarta, one-hand opening, pivot screw, pocket clip, and black aluminum bolsters, then you're gonna like this knife. However, if you haven't experienced this classic lockback, you need to know that there is quite a bit more handle than blade, and they aren't lightweight. This model is lighter than the original brass/wood version (5.9 vs 3.95oz), but it's still pretty chunky. Even though this knife opens one-handed, you cannot flip it open or closed. Occasionally I've forgotten this, a potentially dangerous mistake. I am a buck 110/112 fan and can say categorically this is the best version of the 112 I've ever owned. I'm putting the 110 Hunter Sport on my wishlist. These are super solid, classic knives. The one ding is that the knife didn't arrive as sharp as I would have liked. Five minutes on my Spyderco Sharpmaker (ending with the ultra-fine grit stones) got the S30V hair-poppin' sharp. S30V rocks.

Heirloom quality
This knife is everything you would expect from a buck knife. Except brought up to today’s standards and modern materials. Can’t go wrong with this one.

HUGE disappointment from a company I usually trust
I own several Buck knives and have always appreciated their craftsmanship and cost-to-value ratio. But I gotta say, the 112 Ranger Sport I received was a gigantic letdown. The micarta scales were of 2 different colors (one was OD green, the other was sort of khaki tan). The blade centering was off a good bit, and the sharpened edge was so toothy it wouldn't go through a piece of paper without getting hung up halfway through. I don't expect perfection, but when I throw down $140 for a knife I really hope for better than this. Buck's QC department really dropped the ball on this one, and it's going back to Amazon.
