Irrfan: Dialogues with the Wind

Surreal.
I started writing this as a jumble of thoughts and emotions that I felt in the time I started reading the book which was 22nd June - 2pm. I read, with pauses. I re read chunks. I wrote down a line that stayed. I do not remember the last time I went through such a romantic process with a book.I was eerily quiet the whole day. My phone somewhere in a pile of clothes. I completed it this morning and am now trying to process the journey that has been mine for two days. It’s strange how that day the author, Anup Singh felt to me like an old friend. If I could, I’d call him and tell him its just what I needed - I’m inclined to believe that I will always count this as one of the books that changed my life. It helped me revisit what my art means to me in so many ways.Everybody talks about a story writing itself and the characters leading you to it. I saw a story be fully alive. I saw it elated and sad and belligerent and calm.Irrfan sir has always been someone you look at in awe. You always look at his eyes and see a searching. This time however, he became a friend, a teacher. I pictured myself almost sitting and listing to the conversations shared in the book. I pictured the play of light and how photos take us back to moments. Most of all however, I saw this surreal human being. Who played with life in, whose gaze is outward in the most curious manner.Honestly, if I could write like this I’d never stop writing. I wouldn’t just recommend this to people in the films but everyone because it’s a journey through life in a sense!P.S : Do yourself a favour and watch Qissa and Song of the Scorpions- Written by Ayushi leeching off her partners Amazon account.

What an amazing read !!!
Hi Anup, I finally managed to get a copy of the book and read it in one sitting though I will read it again a few more times. I feel so blessed to have been a fly on the wall while u were shooting "The Song of Scorpions" in Jaisalmer, and even though I have had the pleasure of interacting with Irrfan a few times in Nainital and Jim Corbett National Park some years earlier, the book gave so much insight into the person and his mystique from your perspective. I don't think u might remember me, but I was in the hotel in Jaisalmer on a holiday as Neeta Deshpande's( Production Coordinator)husband and I was with Irrfan all the time during the camel training with Sharif bhai behind the hotel and we had quite a few lovely memorable interactions. There was even an amusing incident when he wanted the same sandals which I was wearing and Production was scrambling all over the country looking for them :) The book has brought out so many emotions in me....the passion, the pathos, the love and respect you had for each other ...hats off to you, Anup.I will wait for your next film...though I know and u know too, that it will not be complete without him !

Janaaab
Irrfan Janaab is with us always, but the way Anup Saab has poured his emotions into this book is the purest. It's sheer love. It's not easy to articulate what we feel when our loved one leaves very early on that unknown journey. Each word is precious here. It's about friendship, death, loss, bonding, sharing, caring, human connection, compassion, and much more.I know people who never cry even if their family members dies, but I have seen them getting very emotional when we heard about Janaab. He was the only one who was beyond acting. His mere presence in a film is art itself. His eyes could say much more than the entire film. With his spontaneity and improvisations, getting lost in that moment and flowing with the rhythm is rarely seen with someone else. There is always something spiritual when we talk about Irrfan. Many thanks to Anup Saab for this amazing gift for all of us.You will definitely get a new perspective, a new dimension, and an unexplored Irrfan, who had dialogues with the wind.
