great product, easy to use, durable. we are british family living in usa where phonics is not taught in school curriculum so this is something we are keen to do at home. will be looking to purchase the dvd/cd next. have already purchased the workbooks 1-7 but i feel they are a little too advanced for my 3year old right now, im happy to hold off using them for a few months yet.

I used this to help my first grader with the blended sounds, and have started with my four year old as she wants to read. Very easy to use and fun, great pictures and reviews at the end of each book. Highly recommended to help your kids learn the sounds so they can become effective readers.

My children love the book. My 2yrs old love looking at the picture,knew the name of some objects. My 4yrs can read,so it's not so much fun for her.

Great fun for kids with the finger tracing action

I am using these books with my 11-month-old girl and she loves the cardboard books. They are durable and effective with capturing her attention thru color and drawings. She looks at the books on her own as well as with me. She traces the letters in the book, which provides tactile stimulation, besides the visual one. I pronounce the letters, read the sample words and make suggested gestures to help in retaining the knowledge. We use these books, checked out from our library, in conjunction with Rock 'N Learn DVD's, which have lots of great topics and Phonics is one of them. My little girl is already picking up the alphabet in sequence, saying it out loud to mommy and daddy. It appears that she will be reading soon, just like my son.

I brought these books for my child who is now 6. I started him when he was at nursery just under 4, before he started pre-school etc.Anyway, I sat with him and went through the books 1-7, I also had the workbooks as well, but I'll be honest I rarely had a need to go through the workbooks. I just sailed through with him over the phonics books and then went over the word book as these cover trickier words Jolly Phonics Word Book. After he had gone through all the books he was a competent reader and most of the time he would be just asking me what certain words meant. I encouraged this with the Jolly phonics dictionary Jolly Dictionary (Jolly Grammar). This way he could learn to find the meaning himself and also learn to navigate a dictionary, it is a lovely dictionary for children.When he started school he was well ahead of the class that the reception teacher would let him read simple stories to class. The teacher mentioned his reading ability was good. Also, she was honest with me that she had to spend very little time with him in class on reading and putting words together (not sure if that was a good thing or a bad thing). But, I was unconcerned at the time.I strongly believe this was the one of my greatest investments made for helping my child read. He enjoyed the books and it gradually increased his mental capacity to understand words and put soounds together, now he is 6 his reading level is of a 9 year old. He now reads the oxford reading tree level 8-9 stories with expression and also understand words and punctuation.I strongly believe these books with the others I mentioned above have given him the ability to read quicker and more efficiently.Of course most of this means that the parent spend a good amount of time with the child teaching. But, the end reward is that you spend less time once they are at school as they are already extremely competent. Imagine, your child coming home from school struggling and not happy with themselves. These books with the others (as I do believe the others played a contributing factor; they are an extension in the jolly phonics universe) have given him confidence and ability to take a book in the library and enjoy reaading. It's likes riding a bike for them, once they passed that initial hurdle, they will be doing wheelies in no time.Thoroughly reccomend these as an essential start for all nursery children.
