This solved EVERYTHING. It replaced the long chain and lock. I bought these for my children (8 & 13). Mechanisms function smooth without need of force. Which is important because my 8yr old is not very strong. Key slides in and out easily, but not too easy. The U lock feels solid with good materials. Bi definitely recommend 👌🏾

This locks is very suitable for my purposes. The price was right and the quality seems good. I like the fact that it is covered with a rubbery material that keeps it from scratching my bike.The mount for the bike is fine but its a bit of effort to get the cable secured with the lock in such a way that it does not interfere with riding. On my bike I have a basket and usually throw the lock in the basket in transit so this is not such a problem for me.We bought two of these locks. One for me and one for my partner. He dropped the key for his in the water beside our boat at the dock which means he is down to one key.I saw this lock on sale on Amazon the other day for about $20 but did not order another one like I should have. If it goes on sale again Ill get my partner another lock and use his old one to lock a shopping cart to the door handle of one of those people who take up two parking places to protect their beautiful cars from the unwashed masses. For this alternative application a spare key, or even one key, would not be necessary.Update October 9: As I mentioned above my partner dropped one of the keys for his lock into the water beside our boat. When the folks at Via Velo read my review they immediately contacted me for my mailing address and the key code. They shipped spare keys, from China, for his lock. They work fine. I had the new keys in less than a week so now we don't have to worry about breaking out the hacksaw if my partner dropped his remaining key in the drink.In the time since I wrote my original review I have used this lock dozens of times and when I lock my bike at the gym I look at the other bikes with the $100 locks on them and cant see the difference between those and my Via Velo lock. When you add to the quality of the product the obvious commitment to customer service this company has, I am enthusiastic about what other products these folks might offer.

Very nice bike lock, I was even able to use it nicely without the cable. It’s easy to unlock, it’s thick enough to where a thief can’t cut it without significant effort (or more likely power tools).My only gripe is that the mount that this comes with to secure it to your bike when you’re not using it is very bulky. I have yet to find a bike that it fits onto without the lock ramming into some other part already on the bike while fitted. I’ve just been locking the bike lock when not in use, and hanging it on my handlebar.

Amazing little lock; easy to carry anywhere, even attach to your bike seat and go!

This lock is pretty big, so if you have a bicycle like mine which doesn't have a perfectly level/parallel to the ground cross bar, or you have a "step-through" style bicycle, you will have to get creative with mounting thisThe mount consists of two pieces - one for each side of a round pole. On my bicycle, the cross bar is at an angle. Additionally, it is an oval-ish shape so the included mount would not work on it. Also because of the angle of the cross bar, there was not enough clearance for the entire U lock to fit in that space under the cross bar and in front of the seat post.Fortunately, the mount rotates, as does the mount's clip on the U lock itself, which allowed me to install the U lock to the side of the seat tube and under the cross bar. While riding the bike, this doesn't affect my peddling, but it does affect when I need to stop and straddle the bicycle (I'm short, and my seat is high up, so I have to dismount to reach the ground.)The mount itself is sturdy if you crank the screws down, which you really have to do to ensure it doesn't rotate in place. The same with the tiny hex bolt that holds the clip to the lock itself.The thick cable provided is a generous length and allowed for me to tether both of my kids' bicycles to my own bike and loop through my front wheel as well. The cable is stiff so don't expect to try to wrap the cable around the U lock itself and carry it all together; it won't work. I had to carry the cable in my bookbag. It has two velcro wraps to roll the cable up into a large roll.My only real complaint about this lock is that as some other reviews have pointed out, it is NOISY when riding. The U portion of the lock makes a loud and noticeable metallic rattle inside of the base when locked so whenever I hit a bump, it makes noise. I am working on figuring out a way to shim the lock with padding or tape or something else to silence it and will update my review if I figure something out.

This is a great and convenient bike lock. I've used it once to lock up 3 bikes, the length was perfect and seemingly durable so far. Gives me peace of mind to leave my bike for a little bit when riding in town.
