Can this be used on skin by itself?

Yes, that is how you DO want to use it. And I use it as soon as I am injured, it helps it heal a LOT faster. If you put this on an injury or scar as soon as you can, it will not be visible after a few months. I put it on 3-4 times a day for a few months and the scarring is gone! Now, it doesn't work on a old scar, it has to be a new one.
