One of the best books on all things instructional design that I have read
This book is an overview of the field of IDT. It is a must have for the bookshelf of every instructional designer and one of my all time favorite IDT books. If you are looking for a how to manual or guide this is not it, but if you are an instructional designer and want to understand your field better, you will enjoy this book. I have a large assortment of IDT books, but I know that this one will be one of the best research references that I have.

My go-to reference book
This was one of my textbooks in graduate school, and now that I'm a working professional in ID, it's the first thing I turn to when I need to refer to a topic or brush up. It does an excellent job of covering all facets of the field, from the early history to modern times, and from the theoretical to the practical. This is not a book about process or a how-to handbook for ID, so look elsewhere for that. This is a book about all the different aspects of our field, and the implications of those aspects on our professional practices. Many of the chapters are written by some of the most well-known scholars in the field. Highly recommended.

The damn ink smears!
Yup, what others said. This is a great resource for ID, but DAMN the price! For the $92 I paid, I cannot believe how easily the ink smears. I take notes in all of my texts, and this is a major issue for me. Thus, despite the excellent content, I must rate this no higher than a 3 because of publishing quality. Makes me angry!!

It is "written like a textbook" and is relatively dry to read
This was a required textbook in my masters program in learning design and technology. We were not assigned to read the entire textbook, but those chapters I have read provide history and background on the field of instructional design. It is "written like a textbook" and is relatively dry to read, but the chapters are organized clearly. I appreciate the summaries at the end of the chapters and the application questions have helped me develop my understanding independently of my course assignments.

just love it.
The book is so intact even though it was a used one. I loved the price for it too. Just usps delayed the delivery and made me anxious a little bit.

boring
This is a horribly hard book to labor through in my opinion. It was required for a graduate level class in my M.S. Instructional Design and Technology class and it was horrible to read. It is boring, written terribly, and a labor to get through. I fell asleep over and over trying to get through it. There was little to no creativity applied to the transference of this information. It is not even very well organized. I actually read the whole thing, as a requirement, but I got almost nothing from it. I cannot recommend this book in good faith to anyone.

Resourceful book!
Love this book. Have no reservation to recommend it. I wish I had gotten a hard cover copy. No regrets in buying instead of renting this book.
