Q: How do you know what A,B,or C channel to switch it to?

There's really no difference between the channels; all you have to do is make sure the remote sensor and the main unit are both set to the same channel. Usually units such as this one provide several channels in case they can accommodate more than one sensor, though this one cannot do that. Also, if you have more than one of these in your house you would want to set each one on a different channel, so that you would see the different sensor readings.
