The Way Out: A Revolutionary, Scientifically Proven Approach to Healing Chronic Pain Review: Life changing book! Hormonal migraines - I have suffered from hormonal migraines for 4.5 years. I started having debilitating migraines about 4-5 days per month in 2019, so I sought medical attention. Over the next several years, I went through MRI’s and blood tests, was prescribed a couple different anti-depressants, Sumatriptan, Frovatriptan, a couple different anti-seizure medications, birth control, monthly emgality injections, nurtec every other day, and I even tried Botox for migraine once - they inject you all over your scalp and into your shoulders and neck.. super fun. For a year I did testosterone pellets that are placed inside an incision every 3 months. In addition to all the trial and error of pharmaceuticals, I was taking 600-1600mg ibuprofen daily, along with 50mg caffeine pills every two hours. I tried acupuncture, massage, and a chiropractor. I stopped eating sweets and drinking coffee, and no more occasional alcoholic drinks. I kept a pain and medication journal. I logged every single pill I took. I wore ice hats nearly every day. I tried barometric pressure ear plugs, the Cefaly device, and the ear Zok. Needless to say, my pain was so overwhelming and intrusive that I would literally try anything to get my life back. The interesting thing was this - the more I tried, the worse I got. The more doctors I saw, the worse I got. The more medication I tried, the worse I got. I went from 5 horrible days per month, to 25+ horrible days per month. There wasn’t a single day that I didn’t have to take medication. I just accepted it as an escalating health problem that desperately needed a solution. I felt really hopeful this time last year when I FINALLY got approved to try Botox for migraine. The doctors kept telling me it was the holy grail of migraine management. I had to jump through many hoops and try many medications before insurance would finally approve... In the end, it didn’t work for me. It made me worse, just like everything else. And our insurance was a joke, so everything was costing us a fortune. I was overwhelmed and defeated. In February 2023, I had upper abdominal pain. It became bad enough that I sought medical attention. We assumed it was an ulcer from all the medication. The thought of a hole in my stomach was serious enough to force me to quit all the medicine. I HAD to quit. It was TERRIFYING to quit. How could I possibly do this?? I stumbled across this book quite by accident. I normally would have thought it was not worth my time and there was no way it could help me, but I was compelled to buy it. I bought it right before the abdominal pain started, not even knowing I would desperately need it right when it was delivered. I used this incredible book about neuroplastic pain and “Pain Reprocessing Therapy” to get me through the detox. It changed the way I looked at my pain. It taught me that fearing my pain and my corresponding hyper vigilance was creating an unending cycle of intense, REAL PAIN that my brain was accustomed to producing. I was spiraling exactly the way the book described. Our brains are powerful! We believe whatever we constantly consume or constantly tell ourselves. We believe what the doctors and experts tell us. We believe the severity of their tone, and the severity of the diagnosis. We believe that medication is the only solution. We believe our fears. And our belief has power. This book helped me to rewire my brain. It gave me simple tools to get me through the difficult process of stopping medication, which had been exacerbating my pain for years. Migraineurs know about the slippery slope of medication overuse… it’s a nearly impossible tightrope walk. I now have about 4-5 migraine days per month (back to where I started) and for the most part they are manageable with a 50mg Sumatriptan. That was never the case before. I don’t take any other pain medication, other than ibuprofen very occasionally. That is a MIRACLE!!! PTL!! I can’t stress enough how incredible and ground-breaking this book is - it’s so insightful, very easy to read, and would help so many people living with chronic pain. Medication isn’t always the answer! It can definitely help, but not always. In my case, almost all of it was extremely detrimental. Be cautious. I also want to note that I started taking a DAO supplement, which has also been so helpful. I encourage all migraineurs to research histamines and their role in migraines. I hope and pray that my review encourages you to buy this book. If you don’t suffer from chronic pain, I promise that someone you know DOES. PLEASE let them know about this book. Review: Life-Changing Insight into Chronic Pain - The Way Out is one of the most empowering and hopeful books I’ve ever read on chronic pain. Alan Gordon and Alon Ziv do a phenomenal job of explaining the neuroscience behind pain in a way that’s both accessible and deeply reassuring. This isn’t just another “mind over matter” book—it’s grounded in real science, including the latest research on neuroplasticity and the brain’s role in perpetuating pain. What makes this book stand out is its compassionate tone and practical guidance. Gordon offers real tools—like Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT)—that you can begin using immediately, and the stories from real people who’ve found relief make it all feel very relatable and possible. It's not about blaming people for their pain, but rather giving them the understanding and resources to finally shift their experience of it. If you’ve been struggling with chronic pain and feel like you’ve tried everything, I can’t recommend this book enough. It offers a completely different perspective—one that doesn’t rely on medication or endless treatments, but on retraining the brain to break the cycle of fear and pain. It gave me hope when I needed it most, and it could do the same for you.

Your brain and body aren't trying to hurt you. It's the opposite. And this book teaches you why.
As I am writing this, I am going through an extremely difficult self-crisis. You might wonder, why give this book 5 stars during my lowest moment? To answer that, some background: when I bought it a month ago, I believed it could cure me. I believed all I needed to do is apply the concepts and I'll be out of my neck pain (and sensations) in 2 weeks tops. That didn't happen. You know why? Because I put all my expectations into this one basket. And for that reason, I grew angry, I grew depressed, I threw this book off and never touched it again. Today, I thought about it again (it's been 3ish weeks). What most shocked me is that when I started reading it again, it was like reading it for the first time. Or even a completely different book. I realised I was subconsciously applying PRT concepts (specifically Somatic Tracking) in subtle ways every day, even while disavowing the idea. Today, my pain is nothing like it was 4 weeks ago. It's gone down considerably, although still there (hence why I had a tumble that lead me here). I know, you're still wondering why this is a 5 star review. Right now, despite feeling fearful, I felt compelled to write this. That would have never been the case 4 weeks ago, when I was angry at this book and wanted to give it a million 1 stars. I am giving it a 5 star review because this book is like a 100 books, each time I open it, I get a new insight or interpretation or clue on what to look into next. My process is that once I finish with one phase of healing, I start to halt or even stumble. Then I pick it up or read other sources on PRT and it's like... I am in a new lease. And each lease gets longer and longer. I actually cannot believe how far I've gone looking at it in retrospect. When you read this, just know that it's going to be a journey. It's neither long nor short, simply YOUR journey. Don't worry about what the reviewers say. Don't worry about expectations. Don't worry about finding a "cure." Just be kind and patient with yourself as you navigate the wonderful world of pain reprocessing. Also note, you are not your pain and you are not your fear. Just because they happen, doesn't mean you have to have a relationship with either one. You are in charge of your reaction to real feelings (physical or mental). Your brain and body are NOT trying to hurt you. They are in a kid-like state where they are trying their best to rebuild you - they don't deserve your anger or pressure. All of "you" can work together for just one extra "painless" second, minute, hour, day, week, etc. It's all progress in the end. If you could remember one thing only from this random, insignificant review that nobody will probably read: just because you feel pain, or feel anxious about pain, it doesn't mean you're having a "bad" moment. You, your brain, your body, all of you, are just trying to learn to get a little better. And it does get a little better whether you know it or not.

Good introduction to the concept but lacked depth
This was good book with a great story but lacked real depth in HOW to overcome health issues related to a nervous system reset.

This book has clear information on how to recover from chronic pain. It has been so very helpful to my road to recovery, and if you implement what you learn, you can find your way back to a pain free life.

At some stage in our life we will read this book thankfully. Modern CRT scans are showing there is so much more to our bodies and minds and just what we can do to fix Chronic pains.

Pour les personnes souffrantes de douleurs chroniques, la solution est dans ce livre. C’est dans la lignée des travaux des Dr Sarno et Schubiner.
