Exactly what we wanted!
This is our second tatami mat purchase from this company and we are more than happy with the mats. They are beautiful and very comfortable to lay and sit on. A good sturdy thickness and well designed. Our cats even love to lay on them. The mats are easy to was and vacuum, and easy to take apart and rearrange into various shapes to fit your room. The mats are thick and cushioned, and have a nice grassy smell to them that we find relaxing. I suggest keeping it cleaned and spraying it with a dust mite killer from time to time, as dust mites enjoy tatami mats. Overall, great product and purchase, would definitely recommend.

Very comfortable, tight weave mats straight from Japan
Fantastic and authentic tatami mats straight from Japan. Arrived within days of our order. The real thing. Very easy to set up and very comfortable to stretch and relax on. Comes with care instructions and connections to link the mats together. We got the bigger one, 9 x 9 and it’s enough room for a futon on top or stretching for two people.

First impressions: very nice!
I just got this in today, it's very nice! It's made up of layers: there is a felt backing on the bottom, some kind of foam in the middle, and then the igusa on top, which is the reed weft over a thread warp. It's bound together on the edges with a cloth bias tape and a classic zigzag stitch. It is springy to the feet, but the top layer is very definitely made with reed --it won't stand up to furniture or stomping with shoes. It's meant for flat items like mattresses, bare or socked feet, and butts! The smell is a nice fresh green smell. This is a niche experience I'm referencing here, but the scent reminds me of dried palm fronds saved from last Good Friday for use as the ashes for Ash Wednesday: it smells very much like that!

Authentic, firm, great quality, tad bit dusty
The feel of the product is that it feels great and cool when you step on it or just laying around. Great for spring and summer seasons. Could be used as a picnic mat too just make sure the area you chose is dry. No moisture. For now I am using it as a sleeping mat for my full size XL Fuli mattress. I'd be lying if I said I don't feel the ground BUT each time I wake up I don't feel any body sores or aches and I feel fine or just better. I'm a SIDE SLEEPER too so I hope that means something to whoever reads this. I honestly can't tell the difference though so SORRY! Oh! And storing this mat anywhere is very convenient because of how thin it is even when you fold it up. I DON'T RECOMMEND DOING THIS BECAUSE YOU MIGHT HONESTLY DAMAGE YOUR MAT. DO IT AT YOUR ON DISCRETION. The dust isn't much as a problem. Just blow off the dust with an air compressor or air can or anything that can blow air good enough just to get between the rush grass and cushion but don't get too close with the air nozzle. Wouldn't want to break your new mat just because of little bit of dust, huh? I hope this helps! Later!

So worth it
It's so lovely. We wanted to switch to a shikibuton for years and we finally did. This mat is such good quality and the smell is really pleasant. Love it! It makes everything so comfortable! Parents with 2 littles and we are over the moon with it.

Feels good, smells good!
I bought the twin XL size. I'm 5'5" and weigh 220lbs. I'm surprised at how long and wide the twin XL size is, in a good way! It's not HUGE or even close to being full or queen size but even for my body, the twin XL is very generous and I have plenty of room to lay down and stretch out. As others have stated, there is a strong smell of wilderness. Imagine the scent of grass you get when you visit the zoo, that's basically it. But, in my opinion, it's a comforting and soothing scent! I don't mean to say it smells like feces-flinging monkeys, it's just a strong scent of rush grass so be prepared for that. The tatami mat is on the thin side but that suits me just fine because I plan on folding this up every morning when I awake so the less space it takes up, the better. It folds nicely and the only reason it gets 4 stars for sturdiness is because the three sections are held together with looped string (albeit, a lot of it) but I can only hope it holds up over time. It just looks like something that a person who is rough will be able to demolish if they don't fold/treat this tatami mat properly and gently. Despite being thin, it actually is more comfortable to lay directly on this compared to lying directly on my carpeted floor. I can't wait to get my FULI twin XL mattress this weekend so I can place on top of this tatami mat!

A splendid piece
It’s just what I imagined it to be and I’m using it very often. It’s very comfortable if you use it with a futon. It’s easy to use and store. Been having good night sleep after using this for sometime. Just make sure you eat it from time to time and keep it away from humidity. It will take you sometime before it’s natural smell goes away, but you can speed up the process by Wiping it with a lightly damp cloth, and a few drops of tea tree oil
