Mixed in with the originals you could be shipped a knockoff, something I have faced a couple of times. But these sharpeners are phenomenal for blackwing pencils but won't perform well for other kinds of pencils sadly.

I was bummed that my Blackwing one step blade even needed to be replaced. It was breaking all my leads for months before I figured it out that the blade was just dull. Replacement blades are good.

I received a Blackwing One Step Sharpener as a gift about a year ago, and wanted to love it, but it never sharpened well. It's got beautiful build quality, much more substantial than a cheap plastic sharpener, and holds lots of shavings, so it's ideal for carrying with you. Unfortunately, it chronically broke off tips and never gave me a really good point.Finally, I ordered these replacement blades, although I was wary of spending more money on something that didn't work well. It transformed my sharpener, which works flawlessly now. If you're having trouble with yours, I highly recommend buying these.My only complaint is that they should have included extra blades with the sharpener. By the time you spend $21 on the sharpener, and $9 on spare blades, you've got $30 in a single-stage pencil sharpener. And I can't ignore the fact that for $2 more, instead of spare blades, you can get a KUM Automatic two-stage sharpener. It's not nearly the same build quality, nor is it the kind of tool you fall in love with, and it wouldn't make much of a gift, but it's really a better sharpening tool. And it includes extra blades.

I was excited to receive this sharpener! I took it out immediately and set to sharpening my many pencils on my art table. After I’d tried sharpening 8 different types of pencils - woodless graphite, inktense color pencil, aqua tone color pencil, HB drawing pencil, and even a regular 2B and NONE of them worked, I decided to return the sharpener! I was shocked! The hole is too small for many pencils. The leads didn’t catch on the blade so weren’t sharpened. Stunning how bad it was given how expensive it is and how heralded it was!

the flat side of the blade is beveled, likely during the deburring part of blade production. nothing but broken pencil tips. tried all three blades, and multiple pencils same problem on all of them.
